Tartine's is a snooty place with a rude owner! Yes, the food is good, the pastries are tasty, but the service and ownership's attitude leave A LOT to be desired.
Today my friend and I (we are both locals) met there for a birthday breakfast. My friend wanted the cheese plate (which serves 2 - 3 persons and is $15.00) but asked whether they could accommodate a half order. She also asked if they couldn't, she would like a side order of cheese. The server came back to the table, after speaking with the owner, advising that a) they couldn't do a half order NOR a side order of cheese! What's with that? NO SIDE orders?
And, at least in my experience, every restaurant I've asked for a half order have happily agreed - perhaps adding an extra $1 or $2 to the item price to compensate them for the plate overhead. But - not here - just a FLAT disregard for the customer.
SO - all you Coronado folks looking for breakfast - My advice is since there are lots of breakfast options on Orange Avenue, Pick on of those and give Tartine's a PASS - They don't want your business.
Apparently this owner can afford to treat tourists this way, but to give this treatment to a LOCAL is outrageous. What happened to the concept that a customer is a retail outlet's most valuable asset?
