“Second Stay at this CUTE Bungalow / Cottage style Motel - Great Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

We had a great stay and highly recommend this motel. It is our second visit here in two years and we had no issues whatsoever - like some of the other people posted about. There is a very cute, yet small courtyard with flowers in front. Parking is easiest in the back of the motel.

The rooms are small, but we did not spend all that much time in them as we were at the beach or downtown walking about the majority of the time. A mini refrigerator and microwave are in the room. There are plantation shutters on the windows, lots of granite tile and mirrors to make the room feel larger along with clean cut Ikea furniture. The room, floors and linens were clean. There were no bugs seen nor any bug carcasses. The air conditioning worked fine. The fridge kept the food cold and the room was cleaned, fresh linens and bed made up daily unless we asked them not too. Some picky people might notice fingerprints on the door and some walls... but the floors, sink, bathroom were clean.

Lupe is older like the previous posts said. However, she did not seem to have dementia to us and we talked to her on the phone before we showed up twice, when we picked up our keys and when we needed another roll of toilet paper. She was very friendly and our bill was correct.

The only complaint I had was my neck hurt after sleeping on the bed. That was not Lupe or the Motel's fault - rather I needed an adjustment before I left and did not get it done. Bring your own pillow if you have neck problems like I do.

I realize that many people who go stay on Coronado are going to be in the upper echelons of the income bracket... but to a family on a budget who would like a nice vacation... on a clean & safe beach... in a town you can walk from one end to the other at night and not get mugged... then this Motel is a great find! We HAVE stayed at horrible places in awful locations... so we know what bad is (think feet turn black walking across the floor and bug carcasses laying about)... in contrast... this Motel is very nice. If you like to spend dollars and have perfection in the form of a large room, mint on your pillow and no kid fingerprints on the door or some walls... then you need to take yourself to one of the other Bed and Breakfasts or hotels that charge upwards of $200-400 dollars a night on Coronado.

Again... We were very pleased and recommend this motel for the second time around (See my first review from Aug 2010).

Room Tip: Rooms to the back are quieter... I have heard rooms to the front are larger.

This was an outwardly quaint, very cheap, tiny, basic place to be four years ago. To save money we went back, two years later, but this time the sweet, elderly lady appeared to have dementia. The place was gross. She told us to go away and she would take care of certain things in four hours, but didn't recognize us when we went back. We had to go buy cleaning supplies! The place was filthy!!! There was old food and utensils caked with food in our room, everything was coated with dirt, including gross hairballs in the bathroom. We are a not picky, Peace Corps family and this was too disgusting even for us to ever go back!

You get what you pay for. If you just want a place to sleep, for the lowest price on Coronado, this is the place. We stayed three nights. We kept telling ourselves that the money we saved was well spent at restaurants in San Diego and Old Town.

The motel is a about 10 blocks to the beautiful beach through nice neighborhoods and/or past the Del Coronado.

It is three blocks to a touristy shopping area and the ferry to San Diego, which is a great ride and puts you within easy walking distance of the Gaslamp Quarter and the Horton Plaza mall, not to mention the carrier Midway Museum. We took the trolley to Old Town, which is a favorite. Don't miss the Mormon Battalion museum presentation.

I will pay a little more next time and stay somewhere with more comfortable beds, enough room to turn around in the bathroom without hitting an elbow on the wall or door, and perhaps a place with chairs and a table. I would rate is below average, but a bargain by Coronado standards though.

The room was filthy dirty and gross! We stayed for about 10 minutes, and had to clean the bathroom before we could use it! We were charged $30 and laughed about it later, saying it was the first time we had to pay someone to clean their bathroom!
We couldn't get out fast enough! REALLY AWFUL!

Dried, caked-in dirt in corners. Food (?) bits on floor. Used wrappers behind toilet. Unpatched holes in the wall. Cobwebs hanging over TV. Worn, dirty carpet under beds with lumps of something black near the wall. No wall molding anywhere- uneven edges of wall did not meet floor. Bathroom door not hung right- the bottom scraped and got wedged on the floor. The whole room needed a good vacuuming. Thin blanket on bed that was not warm at all-it was 40 degrees out! The AC/heating unit was UNDER the bathroom sink- impossible to reach! The room creeped me out with its dirtiness. However, excellent location, near shops, restaurants, and a 10 min walk to beach.

the place is very dirty - floor, tables were full of dust and the whole place was smelly. The shower was full of hairs - walls in bathroom were full of crusty stains. The toilet was easily clogged - a plunger was placed next to the toilet, with stains proving that it had been used before.

We booked 4 nights here for our summer vacation at the last minute and needed a budget friendly place to stay. We thought this was the place. Boy were we wrong! The rooms are small, which is no biggie for us since you just sleep there, so we moved the double beds apart to make room for an air mattress for my son to sleep on. There was a meals worth of food under the beds, as if it had not been touched by a vacuum in months. The desk chair in the room had crumbs all over it. Dust everywhere, bathroom and walls! And we are not clean freaks at home by any means. The hotel is right on the main drag coming into Coronado and every car entering the island has to pass right next to the hotel, VERY LOUD! Barely could sleep. Lupe, the owner was sweet, which was some consolation. We only stayed 1 of the 4 nights, thankfully.
