“My favorite place in San Diego”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2013

The hotel is fairly well known, but still there is so much more to it than whats on the surface. Besides being on a great beach in the harbor, it has many hidden attractions. The shops and restaurants are wonderful. The architecture is of course amazing, and if you are lucky enough, you can catch the Navy seals training as it sits next to the North Island Naval Station. The ride over the bridge is worth the price of the room for one night. The service is always top notch, but never over bearing, which I really like. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: An Ocean view is worth the extra cost, but almost all the rooms have a great view of something. It...

The Hotel Del is like stepping into the past. It is charming. The beach is one of the best anywhere. The town is fun. Seeing the holiday decorations and the ocean front ice skating rink is one for your bucket list. Just love visiting here. Even the hotel shops are great - i send things home from here at each visit. Yes - it is not the modern lux room - but it is so worth it.

Room Tip: The main building is the best - stay in a haunted room!

Terrible Turkey day at the Del. Started out with a loud boom at our door. When we opened the door, there was a broken bottle of beer and a pool of blood in the hallway. The blood trailed on the floors, walls, pool and handrails. We walked our son and wife to valet and as we returned to our room a security agent told us to return to our room and that they they had the drunk detained, the cops were coming, and the room would be complimentary. The next morning while we were checking out, no one at the front desk knew anything about what had happened. no apology, no explanation, no consideration, just "bye bye." How's that for $650 a night. Please be aware that the Del Coronado is deteriorating and is not what is seems. Our experience revealed it is an antiquated facility. There is no communication between it's management system translating into lousy service and security for your family.

This is a classic, historic property with iconic red rooves that has been around for 125 years. It has been beautifully kept up, and gives off much charm and character. I loved the fussy appointments of the room (the wooden mini-blinds were nice), found sleeping here a delight, and loved the regal, upscale feel of the del Coronado. This place has wooed and wowed people for decades, and I sensed that the employees love it here. I was here for a meeting, and the conference facilities were excellent.

We had a fantastic stay at the Hotel Del. Our room, which was in the main part of the hotel, was spacious and beautiful. The service was wonderful. It was relaxing and comfortable to be there with kids, but didn't feel kid-centric at all. We ate on-site and walked downtown to eat as well. Yes, it's expensive, but it didn't feel wasteful or over-the-top. We will definitely be back!

We had a nice 2 day "stay-cation" at the del this past September. After all the high season tourists, and were able to enjoy all the hotel had to offer. We had a junior suite, no view, but plenty of space. Our window looked out onto the delivery area. The room was nice, the bathroom cozy, and the pool was delightful. There was the sandman on the beach who made sand castles which many wedding guests used as backdrops. There were two beach weddings while we were there and we walked to the beach after dinner the first night to encounter the SEALS training on the beach with their huge rubber boats. Highly impressive considering the water was about 64 degrees and they were fully uniformed! Those people totally ROCK! We ad fun walking through the shops at the Del, days on the beach (if you're local bring your beach chairs) and late afternoons by the pool watching the sun set. Always a great time at the Del but bring your wallet.

Room Tip: Our room was 3101. Big, roomy, just don't expect a view. :o)

Beautiful grounds and location, great pool, activities, restaurants. Nice to go from pool to beach. Coronado Island is beautiful , easy to walk to other restaurants. Only down side is the rooms are very small but worth it.
