Our 5th year and our last. We loved the Del the first couple of times we were there. Then it sold to KSL and went directly downhill. It is all about the $ now. We were disapointed when they replaced the lovely couches, chairs, and reading area off the lobby for space to push their new timeshares, but now they have replaced the area where we used to be able to dance in the Babcock and Story lounge with another coffee bar- (like we all need another one of those). There isn't any music after 8 - they moved it down to the super pricey/trendy and not that great - "Oceans" restaurant. They took out the Market Deli - where we used to grab a few snacks and milk for the morning coffee we loved to make in our room and enjoy on our own balcony before running down for fruit and oatmeal, ( in the Deli). The ONE store we enjoyed visiting downstairs is gone - no doubt the rent is too high now. And get this - a new "resort fee" - wether you want it, use it, or not, is for the newspaper and the fitness center. We didn't want either BUT it is a sneaky way to raise your rates. I talked to several of the staff whom I have gotten to know over the years - NOT happy anymore. Our waitress used to come to the Del every year as a little girl and agreed it is loosing its class! The elevator man- said the same, not fun to work for them anymore. NOW they are going along with the rest of the Calif crowd and putting in a wine bar - Great - cant' find one of those anywhere else! If there is a chance it will make a buck - leave the Historic ambiance behind - fill the spaces we used to enjoy, with money makers, take away the enjoyment of a drink and dance so there is not a single thing to entertain you at the Del any longer. No Market Deli, (with free computer access), no music, no dancing, no charming lobby reading area, they even took out the piano bar just off the lobby and put in yet another store. It is TRADITION - that has kept people coming back to the Del year after year. It is a huge loss to those of us that loved the old Del and it's uniqeness. Now its being turned into just another overpriced hotel with coffee bars, wine rooms, spa.s, hidden costs, and unhappy employees. Now we must walk into town just to buy some half n half, get breakfast , find a place to dance a little, or get an inexpensive bite of lunch, - Village Pizza and Cafe del Sol - excellent, as well as many others good upscale restaurants in town. The new management better get off their high $ making horse and think it over. We talked to more than one couple who had been coming for years and said they were disillusioned as well. So long OLD Del - the end of an era apparently. P and K from Hawaii.
