We recently spent three nights at the Crown City Inn. After extensive searching for a hotel on Coronado Island that 1) accepted dogs and 2) that was not over $300 per night (you can stay at Hotel del Coronado or Loews for mucho bucks) I found this Inn through an internet search. With the pet fee it was about $150 per night. Their website looked nice, but I have to admit nervousness since they were not in any of the usual guidebooks. It was great! They welcomed us and our dogs with a "doggie bag" for each dog (treats, a small tennis ball (the receptionist specifically asked the size of our dogs to get the treat bag right!) and poop pick-up bags). The rooms had placemats on the floor where the hotel provided dog bowls. I felt very safe in pottying my dog at 2:45 a.m. because Coronado Island is very quiet and safe-feeling. The hotel was a long (but scenic) walk from the beach (about a mile) but a short drive to the Coronado Island Dog (off-leach) beach (check because San Diego has dates when dogs are not allowed off leach and other dates when they are allowed off leash). The Inn was on the main street of Coronado Island, so it was a short walk to restaurants. The Inn has its own Bistro, but we did not try it, because we ended up taking out for dinner. On Sunday in the summer, the Island puts on an evening concert at the park that was 1/2 block from the hotel.
The only reason I did not rate the hotel Excellent was that our hotel room had a small shower with an odd shower head. The room itself was plenty large and it had both a refrigerator and microwave. The rooms seemed individual, so I wouldn't be surprised if other rooms had different shower configurations. I plan on going back next year!

My family stayed here for four nights in May, and while it was slightly noisy being an older building, I for one very much enjoyed our stay. We had just come from Anaheim and were tired of the fast pace of the freeways. Coronado, while part of San Diego, remains a small town with a small town feel. I could feel the stress leave my body just by breathing the air at the pool. My kids ( aged 5) loved receiving the gift bag that was handed out at check in, it made them feel special like they were important guests as well. Since the Inn is a little further from the main shopping and restuarant area, it was nice to tour the side streets to see the different styles of arcitechure, both new and old. The most beautiful beach just north of the Hotel Del Coronado was where we spent time everyday after going to nearby Seaworld, the zoo, the Wildlife Park and Old Town. I will definately keep the Inn on my short list of places to stay and hopefully next visit I can share the sights with my husband, who remained in Calgary this time.

I can't say that I would stay there again. For the price I paid, I could have stayed at a motel and been happier saving money. The room was clean and we received an upgrade to a deluxe room. We were happy until we got in the room and realized it still wasn't up to our standards. However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the inn as long as you know what you are getting when you reserve a room. There was only about 8 parking spaces but since we always managed to park fine, I have no complaints. The breakfast there was good. We ate there on Easter Sunday and free champagne came with your meal. Although on the expensive side, $55 for four people, it was convenient. I would not stay there again for the price I paid, it was average of $110 per night and we stayed 2 nights.

First, be aware that parking is at a premium. If you intend to return to your room later in the evening, there is a very good chance you will have to park on the street or an off-site lot.

Our room faced Orange Avenue and we had the glare of the street light outside our room and traffic noise the entire night. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't something one would desire either.

The bathroom is quite likely the smallest I have ever been in, outside of an airplane. The shower is tiny(no tub).

We were told by others that the breakfast is fantastic, but we left too early to ever know.

I suspect that the majority of users of this establishment are couples who have one partner serving on one of the military bases of the island. I really could not see staying here for an extended stay. Given the wide disparity in lodging costs on the Island, I can see how many would opt for this place.

Stayed for 5 day and found that the management was very friendly and helpful. This is a nice, quite little motel. The rooms were very clean and well maintained. They even have free bikes. I will stay here again. A lot better than the much bigger, newer and more expensive hotel a few blocks away.
