My husband and I stayed at the El Cordova after doing some research. We had of course originally wanted to stay at The Del but could not justify spending that much on a hotel room! We really enjoyed our time at the El Cordova. We had a fairly small room but it was more than adequate for our needs, I loved the spanish bathroom! My only complaint was that we just had one chair that sat at the desk...we needed someplace to sit other than the bed. We got a great rate, and the location cannot be beat! We are thinking of making this a yearly trip and always staying at the El Cordova. Since this hotel is right across the street from the Hotel Del, we did spend a lot of time over there to the point that we almost felt like we did stay at the Del! I would highly recommend this hotel. The next time we go I would request a different room although the room we had was fine (we had a view of the roof and airconditioning units). The parking garage is across the street, but we had no problems with this.

What a wonderful, quiet, quaint place to stay. We booked a one bedroom suite which was significantly cheaper than the hotel across the street. It was very clean with wonderful vintage furniture and it was very quiet. We never heard any of our neighbors. I understand that they recently renovated and the pool was in the process of being replaced while we were there.

It was great to be able to walk to the beach, or just window shopping down Ocean Ave. The parking garage is just across the street and to us was not inconvenient at all.

I loved the feel of being part of your own little village. Flower boxes under all the windows on the lower rooms and all around the hotel area there were little shops like a florist, a bistro, a smoke shop and a nick-nack shop. It was all charming. The windows opened out at an angle and I loved just opening them and letting the gentle breeze in.

If you're looking for a quiet place and can handle not having a valet then this is the place for you.

We have stayed many years at the El Cordova Hotel in Coronado. We absolutely love staying there as it is a nice, clean and historic hotel with a fabulous location. We will not be making our annual trip this year as the management and service has gotten worse and worse over the past few years.

On the plus side the room was very spacious. We had a 1 BR with a mini kitchen/dining area and it more than met our expectation. The walk-in closet was curiously huge (would have been better if it's smaller and the adjacent bathroom bigger). The location can't be beat - it's right across from the Del and the beach.

The negative: parking is not onsite. You have a choice of street parking or parking at another underground building across the street.
Luggage transfer is a problem, especially if you have a room on the second floor (as we did). The swimming pool was not heated, and was actually rather dirty with fallen leaves. Soundproofing is pretty inadequate - we can hear the hotel guests downstairs.

No breakfast provided, but there's a good cafe (Bino) at the front of the complex.
