“Perfect location and lots of charm - great experience for us”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

Lots of places to visit very close by - great restaurants on site and within walking distance. Room was very clean and near the courtyard, and they are remodeling other rooms to improve them. We ate several times in two of the connecting restaurants and had good meals each time. We will go there again next year.

This was my girlfriend and my first stay at the El Cordova. It's in an excellent location almost directly across the street from the Hotel Del Coronado. The Spanish courtyard style is very nice. The one bedroom suite was very large and had plenty of closet space. I could tell it was once an apartment. The room was very clean and the furniture was is good condition. The kitchen had plenty of dishes and utensils for cooking in the room. But there are also may kinds of restaurants within a couple minutes of walking.

The downside to this hotel is similar to almost all Coronado-area hotels (except The Del). We had to park our car three blocks away in the residential area because there was no parking. The hotel does not have its own parking lot. There are two spaces for temporary check-in parking in front of the hotel, but these were occupied. We doubled back a couple of times while searching for a parking spot and the "temporary" spots had the same cars. So we had to walk three blocks with our luggage.

The other downside to the hotel is that the bedroom windows are open to a driveway. Each morning, the food delivery and garbage trucks made a lot of noise. It was so nice outside we wanted to keep the windows open, so the noise was even worse. To be fair, the windows cut off a lot of the noise if left closed.

But the parking and noise problems aside, the El Cordova is a great hotel at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: There are three suites in the center of the hotel (I think it was suites 82,83, and 85) that open up...

Thank you for your review of our hotel. We're thrilled that you enjoyed your stay with us despite the few issues you had.

I would like to apologize for the parking inconvenience. We are fully aware of the issue and are repeatedly trying to find a solution. With Coronado being an island unfortunately space is at a premium.

We have taken your comment in regards to noise from the delivery trucks in the morning and notified the proper people to prevent this from being a future displeasure.

We would like to invite you to visit us again should your travels bring you back to Coronado.

Hotel was so charming and quant! I felt I was in a small Spanish town. Rooms were small but clean and had everything you need! Staff was more than friendly and helpful - they were cleaning/waxing lobby floor overnight but still got me a cup of house coffee before our departure at 5;30 am. Breakfast was so nice in outdoor setting! I would definitely stay there again. Price was right too!

Room Tip: Ask for room towards from as Wi-Fi signal not as strong in rear of hotel. It worked better second n...

As my wife put it, "it is a bit like staying in Old Town San Diego--it really captures the ambiance." We enjoyed our time there. The room is small, but we got a great deal and the Mexican restaurant downstairs is one of the very best we've experienced.

2 room suite had older furnitions but overall was very surprising. Large bedrooms with bath, front room, dining room and kitchen. Across from Hotel Del. Only drawback is rooms are all above restaraunts so it can be a little noisy.

These rooms are funky with a mini kitchen. Rooms are a little run down and not so clean, but the location to hotel del and other shops is fabulous. This place would be awesome if they would renovate the rooms. My kids LOVED the crepes in the little restaurant close to the hotel.

Thank you for your review of our hotel. I'm disappointed to hear that your stay was not of the highest quality. However, I am very excited to you inform you that twelve of our rooms are currently under renovation and are scheduled to be completed for Memorial Day weekend. I encourage you to give our hotel another try and invite you to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms once they are finished.

Our first trip to California! Attended a wedding and the couple suggested we stay in Coronado. I found this hotel on line and booked. My friends who live in San Diego were impressed on how nice it was......Yes, it is old and a bit noisy but very authentic and quaint. We loved our stay and can't wait to go back. Miguels and the Brigatine are both great restaurants!
