“Poker Players Paradise”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

I stayed here for one reason only.......POKER. Because this is one the of best poker rooms in the USA. Lots of different games and limits to choose from. Daily poker tournaments also.

The hotel room is adequate. Flat screen TV, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer, and comfortable bed.

There aren't many dining options. One coffee shop, and one sports bar. Poker players earn bonus dollars for every hour they play. And they eat in the poker room because there is a special players menu to order from.

Parking is free or you can valet for $5 bucks. The citadel outlet mall is only minutes away.

The hotel maybe 3 stars but the poker room is 5 stars!!!

The entire staff at this hotel is amazing- from the front desk, to housekeeping, to the bellman (Jose- thank you for your wonderful service!) and the spa staff (minus the one spa employee who clearly is not meant for the service industry). If you are looking to relax, Carlos in the spa gives the most amazing massage!

The one improvement would be for the Bell Man to have the tool necessary to better perform their job. Part of the reason that we choose this hotel was for the shuttle service- however they do not run 24 hours a day which caused us to cut short our activities. It would be nice to be able to operate more shuttles if necessary and an electronic way to track them. The rooms need a facelift as you would think LA would have a more updated contemporary feel.

Thank you for a great stay!

The location is excellent if you're keen on watching Anaheim Ducks games and visiting downtown or Hollywood. Also rooms are very cheap compared to other places in LA. Parking is free. Room was clean except that I got a smoking room which smelled bad. The hotel isn't the cleanest, especially the casino section is old and smells old.

Of course if you like to play poker, this is the place to be. Located right next to Citadel Outlets where you can do all of your shopping (very good prices). Got my breakfast from there also every morning.

Had an one hour Swedish massage in the hotel's spa and it was only $64 - a good price. With that price you can also use the hotel's spa which has a sauna and a steam room. Jacuzzi wasn't hot enough. Steam room was nice. Fitness center had only a few running matresses.

An excellent choice of stay in LA!

The hotel is nice, food in the facility is very good. Rooms are comfotable, and next to the Citadel oulet mall, great for shoppers! A good location for business, easy to get to all areas of LA.
The casino is kind of dumpy, heavily Asian staff and players. You have to PAY per hand to play!!
Drinks are full price while you play, and all tables are mainly goofy games, few straight blackjack games. Half of the place is Pai Gow and poker.

This review is meant for people that either want to go there to play poker or want to know about the scene from a poker player's perspective. Understandably, people end up staying at the hotel without even considering that there is a casino there, because it is large and beautiful, and offers a lot of amenities (pool, spa, fine dining, casino games, etc). It's great for the rest of the family if one person wants to play poker and the others will be comfortable. It is about 10 minutes south of LA and they have free shuttles to Union Station and other locations in LA (call concierge desk for schedule). So even without a car, the family could easily get around LA to see the sites. From Union Station, downtown, Metro rail service will take you literally to every corner of LA for about $1.50 per person, per trip or better yet spend $5 on a day pass and travel unlimited in LA.
The Commerce Hotel and Casino just happens to be the largest poker casino in the entire world--meaning that it has the greatest number of poker tables and most of them are going 24/7, 365 days a year! The hotel is also reasonable at between $117 and $134 per night, generally and very clean. There is no smoking allowed in the casino, so it makes things very nice. Casinos elsewhere in the US and Canada are extremely smokey (Foxwoods,Seneca, Niagara Falls, etc). Night and day difference, here.
Frankly, many people play poker here almost every day and are locals who commute from home. If you're a poker fan, you will often find some of the top marquee name players seated at the high roller tables, especially when major poker tournaments are in town (check the tournament schedule), like the LA Open or WSOP Circuit Events. There are lots of other casino games like 21 and various forms of Blackjack including a California version, where you don't bust out until 25. Very interesting and fun. There is a Chinese gaming area where they play Pai-Gow and Baccarat mostly, and its always packed.
For pure poker players, you will find even more detailed reviews about game structures and characteristics of local player and the like, which is beneficial to know, on poker review sites, but this review is more for the family or traveler who wants to know that they can go there and everyone will be happy. especially if they do a little homework to plan their vacation time there, especially if trying to do it on-the-cheap. Many will want to take the free shuttle up to LA and then do one of the many Hollywood tours, offered through countless tour groups.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

I stayed in Vegas and New York this month in hotels that cost 3-4 times more than the commerce but were not as good. It is a little out of the way but the shuttle will pick you up or drop you off at union station and it only costs $7 to lax from there. Food at the arena was good. Plates were huge for a very reasonable price. Staff went and got some subway for me at 2am no charge(tip only). There is a casino in the hotel if that's your thing and there are lots of outlet stores next door also. I would definitely reccommend this hotel and would stay here again. Tip. Pay the extra for access to the club floor for complimentary food 3 times a day
