The hotel was OK. Not great / not too bad.
This is an OLD Hampton Inn. 1970's construction is my best bet. It is getting a little long in the tooth. They are doing the best they can for what they have to work with. The front desk was very friendly and efficient. The rooms are larger than a more currently constructed Hampton Inn.
The surrounding neighborhood is a former downtown type shopping district. Nothing but shuttered buildings. It looks like a bad WWIII movie set. Obviously...we lost! They need to bulldoze the area.
Several posts mentioned restaurants you can walk to from the hotel. Not any more. They are all closed. One on the adjoining property looked like a former Denny's. Another one had obviously been a Burger King. Boy is this area depressed. No bringing it back when it is this far gone.
Now, I would like to point out that the Stater Brothers Supermarket is still open and is just across the street. This is the last sign of life in an otherwise decimated retail area. Let's hope the supermarket survives. It is the only sign of life within a mile.
