“I'd go back in a heatbeat!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

Stayed here in October 2010. The cabin was on the lake's edge & the views amazing. The full kitchen was a bonus, the bed comfy, and for the price, good value. Negative feedback will be from folk who wouldn't be happy with 'The Hanging Gardens of Babylon'!

Fabulous woman at beautiful Lucerne Tourist Info recommended Blue Fish. Didn't want to spend so much, but stayed in #7 for a bit more. SO PEACEFUL!!! Only one night, but with full kitchen I could imagine days sitting out on the deck enjoying the sunrises and sunsets. Big bonus was seeing otters playing on the boat slips. We were treated so nicely and couldn't have asked for a better 24 hours! Between foggy/cold Mendocino and hot/hot/hot Napa, this was the perfect refreshment.

Room Tip: Five or seven. I'd choose seven because of the big tree. If both are available, you decide!

We were here for one night on the 3rd of July. After being on the windswept Oregon Coast it was nice to feel some warmth. Rang ahead that afternoon and one of the cottages was kept for us, despite no advice of credit card details. It reminded me of our beach shack in Phillip Island. The sleeping arrangements were cozy for a family of four but the trundle beds were fine for the kids. The air con was a bit loud during the night but it had to be left on. It would be really hot here if there was a heat wave. Excellent kitchen amenities (no dirty crockery in evidence). The lake is glorious and the full moon provided a gorgeous backdrop for our glass of red! I would imagine this is a great place for a father / son fishing weekend. For us it was ideally located before we hit San Francisco.

My family and I stayed in # 6-7 at Blue Fish Cove for 5 nights in the middle may! The owner Jody and her son Jason were so kind and helpful. We had such a great time. The units had just been painted, and the owner told us that they were in the process of updating some of the items in the rooms but had not gotten to all of it just yet. Everything was great and clean. I read a couple of the reviews that gave a low score and could not believe the comments. The deck was well maintained, the kitchen and bathrooms were very clean. The beach and lawn areas were well managed. The fishing pier was free of cob webs and free of trash. They even supplied the fire wood. The main issue we had was with the weather, it did not cooperate, it was very windy, but who had control over that? Not I... I would bring my family back, no doubt about it.

We made a number of mistakes in booking this “resort”. We didn’t Google Fish Cove for reviews. Had we done so, we wouldn’t have gone near the place. Many of the reviews were very nice, praising the resort beautifully. I don't know where these people grew up! As one other reviewer wrote, most of the advertised amenities were not there. The web site showed a beautiful motel and cottage setting but, in reality, we think those pictures must have been taken back in the seventies, with NO UPKEEP SINCE. There was paint peeling, the doormats were frayed and filthy, the screen door was warped and bound in its frame, requiring one to lift up on the handle to open the door. The door latch going out to the deck was broken, requiring the use of the deadbolt to keep it closed. With the wind blowing, someone had to stay inside to lock and unlock the door for the others to be on the deck. CRAZY!
Inside, the shock continued. We didn’t dare put clothes in the dressers, because of the black hairs which were abundant in the living room drawers,, the bathroom drawers and, especially, IN THE SHOWER! There was a three foot gash in the kitchen linoleum, darkened with age-old dirt. But the big shock was in preparing for dinner. Some of the dinner plates were stuck together from dried, caked-on food. There were food particles on the flatware. We had to wash everything before we could have dinner. One dinner plate was cracked almost all the way through. We had to ask for a dish-towel, and finally went to the store and bought kitchen towels, paper plates and plastic glasses.
Curtain hems were frayed in the bath and the bath towels smelled terrible. Trying to enjoy the amenities was another shock. We wanted to sit in the boathouse and enjoy the lake. That was full of trash, beer bottles and cans and a lot of DIRT. One of the women in our party tried to clean it but gave up after a losing cause.
We wanted to complain, but the office was closed, even though we went to the office during business hours. We were there with another couple, occupying two inter-connecting units, booked for two nights. Our friends had a dog with them and, had we made these discoveries earlier and had they not brought their dog on this trip, we would have left immediately, Had we been booked for three nights, we would have departed anyway and made the effort to find another doggie-friendly place to stay. We wish we had taken some photos.
Many lessons learned, the most important of which is: GOOGLE THE REVIEWS! Will we ever go back? HAH!

Room Tip: We didn't see any of the other rooms besides #6 and #7. But, if the others are like ours, you do...
