“Great option for exploits inland from LA”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2010

The hotel is set in groupings of buildings, so you have to walk up the stairs or take the elevator outside, but the rooms are off interior hallways. The pool was fabulous, a nice sized shallow area (2 feet or less) for kiddies that was attached and part of the larger pool. So kind of a kiddie pool within the larger one.

My family stayed here

Pros:
* The hotel has been recently refurbished and everything is clean and spiffy.
* It's about the only reasonable choice if you want to be close to the Claremont Colleges.
* The internet is free.
* There are a few eating establishments available without crossing the street, and there's a Trader Joe supermarket next door, too.
* My daughter enjoyed jogging around the nearby neighborhood.

Cons:
* The layout of the buildings, and the need to use your room key to get in them, makes it inconvenient to move around the hotel complex.
* Although the courtyards between buildings are nicely landscaped and pretty, they are narrow. That means rooms facing one another are rather close together. I got a real earful from a small-but-loud party across the courtyard at 2 AM. I called the front desk to complain but was there to answer the phone. (Aside from this isolated incident, the hotel was very quiet.)

Tips:
* Ask for two adjoining rooms if you have a family with kids who don't all want to share one room and one bathroom --you'll get a king-size bed in one room and two doubles in the other.
* If the admissions office of a college told you to "ask for the Claremont Colleges rate", it won't work. When talking to Doubletree's reservations people, you must specify which college, and which department within that college. If first combination of college and department you guess doesn't work, try another. (This isn't really Doubletree's fault - it's the fault of the admissions offices that send the same bad info to probably every visitor.) The $109 rate I got this way was better than the AAA rate.

Love the warm cookies! Very comfortable bed, clean rooms and excellent service. Every staff person smiled and greeted us as they passed both inside and out. So many attractions nearby, even a Trader Joe's, dinner theater and Buca's next door! Manicured grounds and nicely appointed. Good for long or short stay.

Overall - good hotel.

Pluses:
- outstanding service by Tammy Islam at the front desk: always smily, extremely polite and helpful;
- good gym;
- decent breakfast buffet;
- Good housekeeping;
- Outdoor pool and jacussi (could be loud at night);
- Good location (Baco Di Beppo and Trader Joe's are right next door).

Minuses:
- Room choice seemed to be limited due to high traffic, and you can hear your neigbours walking if you stay in rooms on bottom floors;
- water doesn't go through too well in the sinks (tested in 3 rooms I stayed at during 2 weeks);
- Wireless Internet is not available in some rooms.

Very nice place to stay; clean*, front desk very friendly and helpful. *The only problem I had was a tub with hairs in it and also it would not drain the water when taking a shower. It had obviously been worked on due to the condition of the screws but the job was never finished. Room 213
Overall good experience!

Stayed here with son while visiting nearby colleges. Very nice. We didn't try the restaurant with so many good choices in the nearby village. The rooms all have a balcony, so ask for one facing the courtyard rather than the car park. There's a nook off the lobby with a couple of computers & a printer, handy for printing a boarding pass before you leave. Definitely recommend.
