“Relaxing Isolation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2010

We spent eight nights at Fond Bay and seven nights on the other side of the island at TiKaye Village. The combo made for a perfect vacation for us - but probably not for everyone.

Fond Bay is on the SE side of the island which is the Atlantic side. The view of the bay is absolutely wonderful. It is at least a 15 minute hike to the beach and fairly strenuous. The setting of the beach is a glorious half-moon with rocky cliffs on each end. However, there is considerable trash, and I am not confident the water is safe for swimming. For viewing, picture taking, walking and shell-hunting, it is excellent.

We were kindly upgraded to an ocean view suite which has been described well in other posts. It consists of a large bedroom with a comfortable bed and a closet. The room was "mildly" air conditioned, and might be considered too warm for some folks. The bathroom had a large shower with plenty of pressure and hot water. The kitchen/livingroom had a large sliding door with a screen that opened to the deck. Furniture consisted of a sofa, coffee table, and a kitchen table with two chairs. There was a small TV with decent cable reception and good wifi access throughout. The "kitchen" is a sink, small fridge and microwave. Utensils, plates, bowls, glasses, etc. are in twos - period. Everything was spotlessly clean and in good condition.

The view from our room, our deck and the villa pool was enough to entertain us day after day. The second pool is a bit smaller with less of a view. We were not allowed to use the villa pool on the weekend because of "maintenance" being done on the wonderfully landscaped gardens.

Fond Bay may be the best value on the island IF you know what you are getting. You will need a rental car or a cab to get to any restaurant. Be sure to establish the cost of a cab fare BEFORE committing. Most of the cabbies are fine, honest people, but we definitely got ripped off once. The owners live in the villa, unless it is rented in which case they move to one of the suites. I think the maximum number of people on the grounds is 14 - adults only. We were there alone for the first two days and joined by a single young lady for the remainder. If you are looking for quiet, relaxed, private and isolated, this is the place.

This is a really quiet off the beaten path resort with beautifull ocean views. We had an enjoyable relaxing time by the pool and walking down to the beach. Besides going to the beach we never left the property and opted to using the meal plan and enjoyed poolside candle lit dinners and ocean view/poolside gazebo breakfasts. We also used the delivery service for extra snacks and beverage as needed.
Great place, fantastic location! I strongly recommend this place for honeymoons or rest and relaxation.

This was my first trip to St. Lucia. The drive to the resort was a little surprising - winding and hilly - but pleasant. I was glad I had reserved the taxi as I would have probably had a somewhat challenging time to find the resort. There are no road signs, or very few. This place is very private, safe, peaceful, relaxing, child-free, and far away from the usual tourist resorts. When they state that it's a small private resort, they truly mean small and private.

There's a small pool for the guests - can't really do laps but quite adequate for a dip. The gardens on the grounds are very well maintained. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

I had an ocean-view suite which was very clean and roomy with a great view of the Atlantic and the banana plantation nearby. The suite comprised of a separate bedroom, bathroom, a good-size living area, and a small patio with two chairs and lounge chairs. Sparsely furnished but comfortable and in excellent condition. Always breezy due to windows in the bedroom, and in the living area along with the sliding glass doors. The bedroom also had air conditioning, if needed. I was able to prepare breakfasts and lunches very easily. Wasn't planning on doing a lot of meal preparation during my holidays but I was very happy I could do so. I did opt during the first week to take advantage of the resort's catering service for the dinner meals. The catered meals, prepared locally, were excellent and reasonably priced.

There's a small pool for the guests - can't really do laps but quite adequate for a dip. The gardens on the grounds are very well maintained. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. To access the beach, the main trail was washed out due to heavy rains earlier in the year. There is another access but you do need clear directions to find it or shown where it is. The beach is some distance away and you do have to wear walking shoes as the trail is quite steep. But the view is spectacular.

To view the island, there is local transportation, mainly mini-buses and taxis, as well as tour buses. Since the resort is somewhat remote, I decided to rent a car instead and be adventurous. I had a blast driving, the first couple of days were a little jarring because the part of the island I was staying at, the main road had lots of pot holes! Fortunately, it is being repaired and resurfaced. The rest of the island's highway is in good shape.

There's a lot to see and do on the island. Too many to list. Definitely an island worth going back to.

We had booked an ocean view apartment at Fond Bay Suites for a week, arriving in the end of February. Fond Bay Suites is located on the east side of St. Lucia, away from the normal tourist areas. And that suited us perfectly, we were looking for a quiet and relaxing stay. Fond Bay Suites is a small but very friendly gem managed by Ross and his wife. The staff was really friendly and helpful, they would do everythin to make your stay comfortable. The apartment was clean and comfortable with air-condition and cable-TV, you also have a kitchenette with micro and refrigerator. The apartment had a balcony facing a banana plantage and a great ocean view. Far better views than we had expected!

We actually got merried at St. Lucia, and Ross and the staff surprised us with arranging our apartment for the arrivial in the wedding evening. Thanks Ross, you all made our apartment lovely and we couldn't spend the wedding night on a better place!

You also might want to try Fond Bay Suites dinner service. We did not expect to have so delicious food served, thanks Ross for giving us an opportunity to really try the local cousine!

The location of the apartments is ok, but you have to rent a car or use some taxi services to get around the island. We highly recommend Linus' taxi service, he can take you all over the island or just take you out shopping. We also "rented" Linus for a whole day, taking a tour around the island. With Linus you can expect to see places and views that you never could find on your own! Also, Linus has a great knowledge about local history, food and he makes your trip very exiting. You learn a lot about the caribbean with Linus, personal service allways with a smile. Thank's Linus for a great time around the island, would love to see more of the jewels you can show to the people visiting your beautiful island!

We had a very comfortable stay at Fond Bay Suites, and we can absolutely recommend it if you are searching for a quiet and relaxing place. We will be glad to stay at Fond Bay suites if we visit St. Lucia again. And I hope we will!

My wife and I truly enjoyed our stay at Fond Bay Suites. We chose Fond Bay because we wanted a quiet and relaxing inn and that is exactly what we got.

Fond Bay has a beautiful view of the nearby Banana plantation. We also loved the fresh fruit that we was provided to us at a nominal cost.

We had the opportunity to tour the island via rental car since our daughter had her wedding at the Sandals Grande across the island.

We had some truly fantastic meals at the Fox Grove Inn and Debbie's

I highly recommend Fond Bay Suites if you would like to stay at an Inn that is free from the maddening crowd, with beautiful views and a reasonable cost.

This place is a real gem, very happy that we chose to stay at the fond bay suites. We toured the whole island, we found that the north and west of the island are really crowded, and not our idea of a relaxing vacation, so we stayed in the south and east end.

Food- There are a number of places to eat in the area
The Fox Grove Inn has a continental breakfast for about $10US/pp including tax and tip you can have bacon cereal or eggs, fresh fruit, juice, and tea or coffee. They also serve dinner.
Janet's was a great place for lunch it was a kiosk with table and chairs. They serve roti for about $2.5US smoked chicken, fish and pork between $2.5 and $4US french fries for about $1.50 and for those of you who just want a hamburger yup they got that too. (try the smoked chicken it's awesome)
There are really a lot of places to list Ross will help you out

Beaches- well although there are not as many beaches as other Islandsin the Caribbean you can still find a tranquill place to lay your towel down. Across from the Hewanorra International Airport in Vieux Fort there is a long stretch of beach there, you can also get a beverage and food at the reef bar. Also if you are into kite boarding you will love this location.
The Fond Bay beach is about a 10min walk from the hotel to get to i'ts nice but not the turquoisewater from the caribbean side,
At Vigie Beach, across the small airport in the north, is nice because it too is empty.
Anse Cochon(Tikaye) has a restaurant there and is good for those of you who want to snorkel right off the beach, that's where Sandals brings there guests for snorkelling.
And of course there is the other "popular beaches, good luck with those i get anxiety when there are 6 people deep on the beach all huddled together like a sardine can, but hey they seemed to love it, who am I to judge?"
This location also has Mamiko gardens, ATV, hiking trails, Waterfall, Zip lining all very close by.
Please remember to rent a car in advance you want to make sure you get one it's very important. It ran us $60/day + $6 tax/day +$22 for a licence.
The exchange rate $1US=$2.7EC dollars.
Well last but not least Ross. As previously mentioned Ross is awesome he will go out of his way to make your stay enjoyable, he will show you where to eat and where to go for awesome tours. He's genuine and a great person. Love ya Mr.Ross,

We spent 2 weeks at Fond Bay and had the time of our life. We couldn't wait to explore the Island so we rented a jeep for 2 days. We knew right away we had picked the best spot. Lots of taxis and private cars were available so we used the taxi service for our rainforest and waterfall adventure.

This place is better than advertised. What an outstanding view! Not only did we get an extremely clean beautiful suite but, we also got an ocean view terrace with chairs and another terrace/grass area with sun loungers and a charcoal barbecue. Beautiful rich tropical flowers were used to section the area and the hummingbirds were constantly present. This was the best place. Everything faces the ocean with very nice cool atlantic breezes. We spent many days just tanning, barbecuing, enjoying the birds, just relaxing and falling asleep to the sound of the waves. We barbecued ripe plantains with chicken - delicious! We also had some delicious creole food (tuna with creole sauce and creamed dasheen) delivered to our suite. Never had dasheen before but it is very delicious! It has the same texture as yams just not as sweet. We also used the maid service to prepare a local "one pot" creole dish in our suite. It was so good - I got the recipe!

It was such a great relaxing time. We talked to the locals around Fond Bay when we go for our evening walk and everyone was just so friendly. They kept asking us if we knew about certain foods and when we said, "no". They would deliver some to Fond Bay for us to try. That's how we got into the ripe plantains. It was such a great experience - I urge everyone if you are looking for a quiet, friendly, affordable place to relax, try this place. I highly recommend it.
