“A pearl in the rainforest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013

You can't miss this place!
Placed in the hills of the forest this hotel gives you a wonderful feeling of being in nature's good hands. When sitting on our balcony, we could listen to the melody of billions of little animal sounds, breathe the humid dense air and spoil our eyes with a sensational view over the green rainforest hills down to the coast.

The hotel is managed by a Swiss couple, partly with St. Lucian origin. Staff and management are very professional and are always personnally aiming to give you a perfect time. We had the impression that the management sets huge value by treating their staff very fairly and giving them as much responsibility as possible. Some staff people have been working there for years - that should tell you enough about the good working conditions and atmosphere. We appreciated that so much.

If you think you are too far away from beaches and from everything: Forget about your sorrows and be sure that this place is strategically one of the best on the island to get everywhere (car needed): You easily get to Vieux Fort in the South but it's also not a lifetime to reach the northern places closer to Castries.
If you are looking for a hotel close to the beach, this is not the right place for you. But why don't you try out a mixture: We spent 14 days on the Island and 4 of them at the Fox Grove Inn. I can only repeat: there's no other place that could beat this feeling of being a tiny part in a immense nature universe.

Last but not least: The husband of the management couple is a professional chef. People come from the outside to enjoy his fantastic meals.

We would certainly go there again!

My cousin and I recently stayed at the Fox Grove hotel for 5 days and what a great place to spend some time in St. Lucia.......The owners are very friendly.....outstanding and professional house staff, pleasant groundskeeper......we felt very comfortable and safe at the Fox Grove......This hotel is nestled in between the lush green mountains with some very spectacular views of the Atlantic ocean......be prepared for a totally relaxed atmosphere ....There is an in-house bar and restaurant and we were quite satisfied with our meals ........we plan to visit this Island again in the near future and we will be heading straight to the Fox Grove Hotel....there is no other place for us........If you are looking for a no hassle and relaxing place, this is the place for you.......reasonable rates!

We love inns anb B&B's, but it seems like we went to a different Fox Grove Inn from many of the other reviewers. Yes, the setting is beautiful, with boganvilleas, a grapefruit tree to pick from and views of the coast. the pool is great. But we did not find the people friendly: from the server who just looked at us as we arrived, to Franz who socialized with his friends but did not talk to us, and who is not in the kichen at meal times. The food was so slow to arrive that we took a book to the restaurant at mealtimes, and was not well prepared. Mushy frozen green beans, overcooked fish, tough meat: we found out that Franz has not worked in the kitchen for years. As an ex-chef, this was a major disappointment for me. Esther was helpful, but we did not find this a sympathique place.

Franz and Esther are a lovely couple who are the owners of the Fox Grove Inn on St Lucia's East Coast. We stayed there recently and thoroughly enjoyed our time. Franz is a chef who has worked in 4 and 5 star restaurants in Europe and was the executive chef for the US Embassy in Geneva, where he prepared meals for royalty, presidents, ambassadors etc.

The Inn is located on the quiet east coast of St Lucia, which is breezier and cooler than the west coast. Because of this, bugs were never a issue and the tropical night-time breezes lulled us to sleep each night.

The grounds of this lovely estate were well manicured and included many colorful flowering shrubs and bushes such as Bougainvillea, Hibiscus and Orchids to name a few. It was always a treat to watch the hummingbirds gathering their nectar. I was more impressed with the Inn's grounds, then I was with nearby Mamiku Gardens which charges an admission to stroll around. My wife who is an artist, took many photographs on the grounds, to use as inspiration for her future paintings.

The Inn is in a secluded area, situated on a hillside - overlooking the beautiful grounds, pool area and Praslin Bay in the background. We ate all of our meals on the second floor veranda where we could enjoy the balmy tropical breezes and indulge our senses with excellent food and beautiful views. It was almost as intoxicating as Franz's Planters Punch, which became a mainstay with each meal. I enjoyed the meals so much, I was loathe to eat anywhere else.

I especially liked the trigger fish which was dipped in an egg wash, dusted with flour and then pan fried. So moist and tender - I must have ordered it 6 times while we were there. Another favorite of mine was the Lobster Salad, I was very surprised at how much lobster was in the salad. My wife's favorite was the French fries and Tenderloin and each morning we dined on fresh local fruit, juices, bacon and eggs.

If you want the hustle and bustle and expense of the usual tourist traps - then go to the Rodney Bay Area in the North. But if you want a relaxing, quiet, peaceful retreat, where you can be catered to, have wonderful meals, enjoy the scenery, and soak up the sun poolside, while sipping on a Planters Punch, then go to the Fox Grove Inn. The rooms are not luxurious, like one would expect at the Hilton or a 4-star resort, but then again, you are not paying those inflated prices either and in my opinion, they are more than adequate and very clean. The prices for rooms, drinks and meals are all very reasonable!

If we return to St Lucia I would definitely stay at the Fox Grove Inn.

Room Tip: Definitely get a Ocean View Room. A/C is not important as they have ceiling fans and beautiful breez...

This hotel is highly acclaimed and we were not disappointed. Esther, Franz and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the apartment which included a bedroom and a large kitchen that was well stocked with pots and dishes. You could eat on the side patio or you could eat chef cooked foods in the hotel's dining room overlooking the pool and the Atlantic ocean. The food was good with sufficient serving size.
If you are not driving, local buses can be flagged down at the main road which is a short walk from the Inn.
The pool was a good relief on the hot days after a day of exploring the island.
Our stay was very enjoyable and I would recommend the FoxGrove Inn to all.

Great reviews were accurate. My husband & I stayed in the lower apartment; 2 weeks for only $1000 in March 2012. We loved every aspect of this quiet, clean, comfortable and private location. The terrace available to us was a lovely spot to read, watch broad wing hawks soar, and be constantly entertained by hummingbirds, bananaquits & bull finches. Some days we stayed in this sanctuary, lazily swimming in the huge pool, going for a stroll, making meals in our well equipped kitchen and then another swim. So lovely!

Esther was exceedingly helpful before we even arrived, telling us how to travel by bus from Soufriere. (The contact at our accommodation in Soufriere indicated we could not take a bus but could have a ride arranged for $100.)

We did not rent a car but used the local buses with great interest... what an experience each ride was! Like traveling in a centrifuge. Traveling into Vieux Fort was easy: for groceries, great local books at the bookstore, banking and bus connections to other locations. All local people were very happy to help us find our way. We loved the town of Laborie, taking the bus there twice, where we swam, had a most beautiful beach to ourselves, ate in local diners, watched fishermen clean their catch and laughed with the kids heading home from school.

Traveled to Castries for a day. Again, easy by bus and a great opportunity to explore local parks, market, restaurants, art exhibits etc.

Back home at Fox Grove, pleasant walks in all directions. The nearby town of Praslin has a Botanical garden worth a visit and a Casava bread small business development project - such an interesting chat with the owners.

If you are seeking an all inclusive resort with bars and nonstop entertainment, this will not suit your taste. If you wish to experience some local life while staying in a wonderfully quiet location with an invested owner, sweet staff and a delicious restaurant, Fox Grove Inn is for you. The people of St. Lucia were very unique in how they approached us as tourists. Generally with a broad smile and "Welcome to the beautiful island of St. Lucia." We were not pestered at all. People seemed genuinely interested in wanting to know if we were enjoying ourselves, if we planned to return, if we would recommend St. Lucia to our friends. It was as if all believe the future of tourism depends upon repeat visitors, so no one would pressure or try to con us. Soufriere was beautiful but felt more touristy. I'm glad we spent only a few days there and enjoyed 2 weeks in a spacious apartment at Fox Grove. Thank you Esther!

Room Tip: Lower apartment - I'd go back for another 2 weeks in a minute. We were fortunate to have quiet a...

The Fox Grove Inn near the East Coast of St Lucia is a small but very pleasant hotel. The staff is very friendly and efficient and the meals are excellent. A mixture of local and international food with ample choice. The location makes it easy to visit the tropical rainforest, the unspoilt town of Soufriere and many interesting places on the island. If you don't want all inclusive accommodation and an atmosphere that you can find on a dozen other places, The Fox grove Inn in Mon Repos, St Lucia is a wonderful place to be during an stay in St Lucia.
