We stayed here twice within seven days in July, on our way to build houses in Mexico and on the way back to San Jose. There were difficulties with room assignments (we were part of a large group and the hotel was pretty full), but the reservations had been made more than 3 months in advance. That the front desk had similar problems on our return a week later was both surprising and dissappointing. Tired and dirty, many of our group had to wait for as much as two hours after the normal check in time to get a room.
On the first stay I had to take a smoking room, even though we had made clear our desires for non-smoking, and on the second, the bathtub was not draining, and had a small puddle of disgusting looking water in it. We had about an hour and a half wait until they were able to address that problem. Perhaps if not exhausted and dirty, these problems would seem less of an issue. The staff did not seem particularly apologetic; they seemed overwhelmed, and that appeared to make it a challenge for them to be courteous.
Also, minor maintenance issues (loose hooks on the bathroom door, loose toilet paper dispensers) made the stay less than stellar.
On the other hand, the rooms were clean and standard, and the pool was nice, and other than check-in issues, the staff was fine. Breakfast was also fine.
Still, when I have the opportunity to stay in the San Diego area again, I will check for other hotels first.
