“Convenient location in Chico”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2011

The staff was nice and I was delighted to be upgraded to a Family suite with 2 king beds in it. The staff recommended good restaurants downtown. We were very close to Chico airport and could walk to Starbucks in the morning. Beds were comfy and room was quiet although close to Rt. 99.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to the Family Suite because I am a Best Western Reward Member. It had two king bed...

We didn't expect much from this hotel, knowing it was only a spot for us to sleep. We were pleasantly suprised with the cute little pool and hot tub which sits off in a corner of the parking lot. Even though the freeway sits adjacent to the hotel and parking lot, the pool had nice landscaping and a nice gate (which should have a security lock though) to keep kids safe. The breakfast was ok with cereals, coffee, juice, muffins, toast, cold hard boiled eggs, and a waffle maker. We used Priceline and got a decent room for a fraction of their rack-rate. Not a bad place with easy access to freeways, stores and food.

After our stay at the Holiday Inn, where our bathroom flooded, we decided to stay at Best Western. The room was very nicely decorated. Unfortunately the air conditioning didn't work. We called room service at about 9:00 p.m. We were told in was the compressor and it would work in about 5 minutes. It never cooled down. The hallway was so much cooler but couldn't keep the door open all night. We sweated while sleeping all night. All rooms were sold out because of the holiday weekend. They did however return our money after they found out we were uncomfortable all night.

We stayed here recently for 5 nights while taking my son to college. Just o.k. Floors in both
hallways & stairs need to be vacuumed more frequently. Overpriced for our visit.

Stayed here one night and place smelled musty and the room was not that clean including the bathroom. Burn holes in a non-smoking bed. Complained to manager site and refused to give me my $ back saying he'll make it right. How do you make a tired dirty room right in an hour?? Very weak breakfast. I stayed here 6 years ago and it was a nice place but it's just old and tired now.

This hotel worked fine for us for two nights, but it could use a few improvements. We had a room with two queen beds which was a good size for a family. I was worried that the beds would be too hard (based on other reviews) but the ones in our room were tolerable. I would suggest to management that they invest in some new vacuum cleaners as the carpets in the room and hallways seemed in need of cleaning (and I made the mistake of looking behind the bed where I found it probably has never been vacuumed- lots of yucky stuff there). The hotel is located between the KMART and highway 99, so you can expect some traffic noise but it wasn't terrible. The front desk staff was very courteous and helpful. Breakfast was fine-- cold items and make-your-own waffles. There are only 7 or 8 tables in the breakfast room so it gets a bit crowded. I'll keep this hotel on my list of good economical hotels in the Chico area. My first choice is always the Diamond Hotel, but this is a decent backup when prices at the Diamond are too high.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the 99 highway if you're a light sleeper

I have to start by saying the front desk staff are friendly and helpful. That being said, I think they dissapear in the wee hours of the morning. I know the hotel is not responsible for loud guests, but we had a group linger in the hall off and on from midnight to 4am. They obviously didn't care that other people were trying to sleep. Three calls were made to the front desk and not one of them was answered. Because these pepole moved in and out of rooms, you would just fall asleep and they would wake you up again. I am not blaming the hotel, but where was the hotel staff when we called? When this was brought up at check out, we were told someone should have not only answered the phone but taken care of the noisy guests. Also, try to get a room off the noisy road side! Even though this hotel has interior corridors, you can hear the street noise.
Other than that the room was a good size and condition. The breakfast was typical B.W. continental, but adequate. The pool was fine if you don't mind the loud traffic from the street and the highway that parallel it.
This was a middle of the week, overnight stay to visit Chico State.

Room Tip: Request a room on the back side, facing away from the road.
