You probably can't get better rates in Chico, especially considering that you can always expect a clean and comfortable room at The Safari. It's definitely outdated, but improvements have been made here and there and it actually possesses a rather quaint charm. Now for the warning. Perhaps because of the excellent rates available at The Safari the clientele isn't always the most desirable. This wouldn't necessarily be a problem except that on a recent stay there was a problem that the management was much too slow to address. It seems 2 guests invited a bunch of their friends over to party and at 1 am (definitely past pool hours) they were partying it up in the pool area. In addition, the motel guests had opened the back of their station wagon that was ACROSS the parking lot from the pool and were blaring their car stereo, sharing profane rap music with the entire complex. After 10-15 minutes of enduring this I attempted to phone the office and the phone just rang and rang. So I then ended up calling the Chico police. I was told that someone would be sent out, but I never saw them show up. The manager eventually (after this went on a good 1/2 hour) came out and things quieted down after that. Frankly I was floored that there wasn't an immediate response to this activity, particularly considering that some guests may have had children with them who didn't need to hear the type of "music" that comes with warning labels on it. So basically, I would still recommend the Safari Inn, just bear in mind that if a problem arises you can't count on the management to respond in a timely fashion.
