“Outstanding Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

If there's one weekend that Chico becomes a madhouse, it's graduation weekend. Families of some 4000-odd students graduating descend on this small college town. Unbelievably, we called a week ahead to reserve a table for 11 people the Friday of grad weekend. When we arrived, we were promptly seated. Our server, Jonah, was the man! This guy was on top of everything from drinks to appetizers all the way to extra napkins. I would come here for the service alone! Now on to the meals: most everyone started with Tres Hombres' signature margarita, and it was sooooo good. One big one will last you throughout the meal. We then had coconut-fried shrimp which was fried just right. Finally most everyone at the table ordered the fajitas, which were great. All in all, if you're looking for a great family-style mexican restaurant, this is the spot.

“Disappointed!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013 via mobile

Working in Chico, so I was very excited to go here. Gorgeous inside with warm lighting. Quoted a 15 min wait, was seated in 8! Off to a good start.

Glad we were seated before a large group of 15. Placed our order for margaritas, and waited and waited and waited. The large group received their drinks before us. Still waiting.

Then the food came. We asked twice about our margaritas. Finally the came.

The salsa is average, but the guacamole is good. I ordered mahi mahi tacos. I was very disappointed. I was expecting generous fillet of fish, and opened it to find the fish was minced. It looked more like an appetizer. My husband ordered the chili relleno which was good, and a vegetable to tamale. He felt the tamale was unedible.

We did inform the manager, Ryan, of each item. He was warm, courteous and aimed to please.

Overall, very disappointed, however, because of the management's desire to remedy the problems, I will try this restaurant again.

“Great inside or out”

Great appetizers and food, great service. We usually eat outside since we can lease our dog to the railing right next to us.

“best to stick to the basics here”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

We had dinner here and enjoyed the ambience and outdoor seating. We ordered paella and the stuffed calamari. The calamari roll was deep-fried and while some people might like that I was surprised because the menu didn't indicate that it was. My husband's paella didn't really taste like paella. Both dishes were passable. I think it is probably better to order more typical fare here like their tacos.

“Very friendly and delicious”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Stopped in and ate at the bar on a solo Saturday night concert mission. Service was great and the fajita plate was delicious. Nice that they offer black beans as well as refried and you can sub fresh vegetable for the rice. This place does a lot of business and was pretty loud. Would not recommend for those that do not hear well. Quite a young crowd at the bar, looks like this place is very popular. Will come back next time I am in town.
