I visited Chico for a conference at CSU, Chico and I stayed at the Vagabond Inn. The staff was very friendly and the hotel is very close to the downtown area as well as the school. However, in six nights, the sheets were only changed once and we never had enough towels (there were three people in the room). Overall, the housekeeping was pretty poor for the cost. Further, it was a bit expensive (80/night) considering that the hotel would have been empty if not for the conference. We spent over $400 for our room, and when we checked out, they gave us $5 in Vagabond Bucks. I feel that the Vagabond Inn is too proud of what it is.
