“Stay started and ended poorly, but overall ok”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

We chose this motel because of its proximity to Lassen Volcanic NP; it is the best option in the area. We had stayed there a couple of years ago and knew it was pretty nice, although fairly expensive for what you get. The town isn't much but that isn't a big deal. When we arrived the desk clerk was on the phone. She sort of acknowledged me, but spent several minutes on the phone, covering the same information over and over. However she redeemed herself the day we left. More on that later. The rooms are nice, large and clean and well designed. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was ok. The bad stuff happened just as we started to leave (no fault of the hotel; they were very good to us after). We had parked near the front entry and there were three empty parking spaces next to us. For some reason a construction truck parked behind us decided to back into us instead of into the empty parking spaces. The impact moved the car onto my husand's foot and did quite a bit of damage to the car. The front desk staff witnessed the event and were very good about getting us phone numbers for local law enforcement (who could not take a report because it happened on private property). While the trip started poorly and ended very poorly the overall stay was fine/

I stayed one night here, after spending the day in Lassen Volcanic National Park, and on my way to Lake Tahoe. It is a nice smart hotel, well maintained, and with friendy staff. The room and bathroom were spacious, and although it was only a continental breakfast, you could make your own waffles. Chester is a small quiet place, and I ate at the 50's diner next door to the hotel (Cotton Candy Diner) where I had a great cheeseburger and excellent fries. The area surrounding Chester is lovely.

Room Tip: Chester is a quiet place and there are no good views to be had, so all rooms should be fine.

Your review means a lot to us. Thank you for taking the time to review us tripadvisor. Unfortunately, Cotton Candy is no longer open. It is a blow to our community and will be missed. Come back to visit us next year! We can't wait to see you

During our 4 weeks stay in the US in summer 2012 we stayed one night at this hotel.
Due to wildfires, only one night-unfortunately.

The hotel was very clean, the rooms spacy as well as the bathrooms. WiFi worked very well and staff was very friendly. It wasn't an issue at all that we left one day earlier due to thick smoke in the air. Staff also informed promptly and precise about the wildfire status and gave tips where to go and where not.
Breakfast was continental as usual with some extras - allright for us.
The hotel is conveniently located on the main street with supermarkets and gas stations not far away. Due to smoke we haven't seen much more of the surroundings. For a drive to Lassen Volcanic NP it takes roughly 45min to 1 hr.
We'd stay at this hotel again if we'd happen to be in Chester again.

The motel was clean with newly painted walls. The bed was comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The TV was large and an old model, but the picture quality was good. The breakfast was good with a lady watching the area constantly. The motel appearance was very good. The price was high, especially for such a remote location. We forgot a camera battery and charger in the room. We contacted the front desk, and they mailed it to us It was a comfortable pleasant stay, and we would stay there again.

Room Tip: There is an elevator. I like the second floor.

We stayed here for three nights in mid-July, using Chester as a base for visits to Lassen National Park, Lake Almanor and the Feather River Canyon (great for railroad buffs and others). We chose the suite option, which gave us a very large room with a mini-fridge and microwave. The king bed was wonderfully comfortable, and the bathroom had a nice long counter, just right for spreading out toiletries. The lighting was also very good for reading after dark. The room and bathroom were quite clean, except for some spectacular cobwebs decorating a wall sconce.

The staff at the desk were personable and helpful with recommendations of restaurants and practical info. There were also abundant racks with tourist info; Plumas County does a really good job with its main free magazine on attractions. The two-story lobby is tastefully decorated, and has coffee available (in urns) 24 hours a day. This is much appreciated since the check-in time of 3PM was delayed almost an hour on the day we arrived. A continental breakfast is included; nothing special, with very limited pastry and cereal choices. They ran out of yogurt the first day we were there and did not restock. On the positive side, the electric waffle iron for making Belgian waffles works very well.

We found this an excellent and convenient place to stay on our way to Lassen Volcanic National Park. The suite had a sitting area that was actullay perfect to use for our luggage, comfortable beds and a large bathroom. Of the three different Best Westerns we stayed in on our vacation, it had the most comfortable beds. The breakfast was basic with the fewest choices of any place we stayed but was still fine. The only negative was that there was a sign warning about using the elevator due to the chance of power failures and getting stuck. I took the risk with our baggage and had no problems.

My husband and I stayed here one night while visiting Lassen and would loved to have stayed longer.
The place is impeccably clean. There is a wonderful breakfast room, coffee, a small fitness center, a hot tub, and a very friendly and helpful front desk staff.
Chester is a lovely little walkable town. There are a few cute restaurants close by. The grounds of the hotel have a picnic area and grill for your use.
This was a very relaxing, homey place to stay.I am so glad we stayed here. Next time, I want to stay more than one night!
