“Fantastic, fun stay!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012

We wouldn't stay any where else. Love this place. The staff is friendly, the rooms clean and right on the beach...what more can you ask for. I have already made reservations for February 2013. Can't wait for our return.

Room Tip: We have only stayed in the building that is on the beach and it is fantastic. The views are amazing...

I travel with my dog everywhere. I have been in the Wine Coast Country section of Central California (San Luis Obispo County) and the Shoreline inn came highly recommended to me as a dog-friendly accommodation. It is located right on the beach between the ocean and CA-1 in Cayucos. It is the only hotel that has a big sign out front that says "Pets Welcome" (the few others in town that allow dogs don't boldly promote it like the Shoreline Inn does). The hotel has two stories, and two buildings. One building is located right on the beach with ocean views from every room; the other building is located on the street side (Ocean) and also has views towards the ocean, though more at an angle. When dog owners check in with their dogs, the hotel gives them a dog welcome package consisting of a nice metal dog bowl (not yours to keep; you have to return it to the hotel), dog biscuits, a current copy of Fido Friendly Magazine (to keep) and a large sheet to cover your rooms bedspread with, so your dog is welcome to sleep on the bed with you. Dogs are welcome in the lobby when continental breakfast is served (I went there without my dog the first morning and staff asked why I had not brought my dog, that she was welcome to accompany me while I ate breakfast there). There is a special doggie area with poop collection bags and a waste container for doggie doo doo. When I checked into our room, the first thing I saw right by the front door, was a towel hanging from a hook (see the pictures) saying it was a slightly stained towel free for my use to towel off my dog! With or without a dog, the rooms are NICE! I have such a nice view of the ocean, my own private little patio, a large mini fridge, a microwave, a large flatscreen TV with DVD player and lots of cable channels to pick from. There is a hair dryer mounted on the wall in the bathroom, which also has heat bulbs to warm things up. The main room has a built-in heater (it got pretty nippy at night even though I stayed here at the end of May). There is an ironing board and iron in the room, along with a coffee maker and coffee. It has a small table with two chairs to dine at (or work on your computer from). A nice clock radio is located at the bedside. The hotel has off-street parking reserved just for its guests. There are sunbathing areas on the ground floor, a barbecue grill for guest use. There is no swimming pool but the ocean is HUGE and right outside your door! There is not fitness center but you are right in the downtown with all the quaint shops you can walk to, the historic pier nearby, and good exercise walking on the beach with your dog (dogs are allowed off leash at all times on this beach!) A lot of places in town are dog-friendly, lots of outdoor dining that permits dogs in the patio areas, and so many places have dog water bowls outside and biscuits ready for the dogs that come by. I visited 8 different dog parks while here, too. I would definitely stay here again and would love for every responsible dog owner to stay here, too (don't muck it up for the rest of us; use the special bed cover if your dog will be on top of the bed and scoop the poop, please! Also, don't leave your dog unattended in your room).

Room Tip: There is no elevator to the second floor, just stairs; if mobility is an issue for you or your dog i...

We loved your review specifically on our pet friendliness. Many of our guests appreciate bringing their pets to the beach and enjoying beach living with them. Thank you for being so detailed about all the little things that oftentimes do go unnoticed or uncommented. We love that you described the rooms and our little town through the eyes of a pet lover. Thank you for also mentioning that one does not need to bring their pet to the Shoreline Inn to have a great time, but that a lot of times the pet is an added bonus. FYI our beach does have a leash law, but it is not always patrolled. We do hope to welcome you and your pet again soon

It was a last minute booking and this was the only reasonably priced motel with rooms available. It's a great location right on the beach but we expected the rooms to be more comfortable and modern for the price. There was a fridge and microwave in the room which was nice. The room was clean but it's a pet friendly motel so there was a faint dog smell in the room and a lots of dogs in the yard outside our sliding glass door. The breakfast was really basic but the staff was friendly. Overall it worked for a one night stop over but I think if we'd have planned ahead we could have found a better value.

After a bad experience at another local hotel, we felt incredibly lucky to find this gem...right on the beach! It doesn't get any better if you love the beach. Friendly people, friendly help, friendly dogs. Premises and rooms were pristine. Only steps to the beach from our rooms. (We changed rooms because we decided to stay an extra night.) We would definitely stay again and are already planning to come back here. BTW, if a hotel advertises that they are "pet friendly" call and ask what they mean exactly. The hotel we left delegated only one room for pet owners and we found dog poop in the room and they (the hotel and Hotel.com/Expedia) refused to refund our money. My bad for not reading all the reviews.

Room Tip: There are two buildings but all the rooms are ocean facing. One building is right on the beach and t...

We booked this hotel for a 3 night stay for my birthday this past weekend. I was hesitant because of it being a pet friendly place (we don't have pets) but for the price and the ocean view we decided to go for it. I am very glad we did! The room was a good size with a king bed and a nice balcony facing the ocean. We found no pet hair or smells and I had no allergy problems.

The staff was wonderful and friendly. We ate breakfast there every morning and there were lots of friendly guests to talk to. The place was full due to a car show in Cambria but our floor was very quiet.

We will be back for sure.

Thank you so much for your kind review, we are very glad you had a great time for your birthday. The Shoreline Inn is a great spot for a quick getaway and we try to make all our guests four legged and two legged feel comfortable. Thank you also for describing our beachfront rooms; they are a favorite because of the great views and the closeness to the beach. We hope you'll be back soon for another getaway.

We stayed 1 night at the Shoreline Inn mid April, 2012. To be fair we had a king bed in a pretty basic room with a great ocean view for a reasonable price. However if you’re not a pet owner and especially if you have allergies be very cautious. When booking the room I asked specifically if there would be pet odours. The clerk said no - but there definitely was; kept the balcony door open all night. This hotel caters to dog owners and the staff appeared to be pet owners themselves. Trouble is pet owners don’t notice pet smells. We couldn’t wait to leave in the morning but if you’re a pet owner it would be a pretty good place to stay. Great views and a very good Italian restaurant nearby, the Cafe Della Via.

My husband and I picked the Shoreline Inn for the location and the fact that they allow dogs. Unfortunately, we received news that my husband's father died after our first night there. Consequently, we had to cut our stay short. When we booked our stay, we understood that we would still be charged if we needed to cancel. However, after speaking to the Shoreline about our situation, they offered their condolences and did not charge us for the second night. Although we were willing to pay for the second night, you can only imagine how nice it was for us not to have to worry about an extra charge while trying to make family arrangements. We will definitely go back for an extended stay at our first opportunity.

Now on to the facilities... The Shoreline has the best location and view. The offer many choices for breakfast and you can't find a location that is more accommodating to dogs. When we travel, we always bring extra blankets to place on the furniture so our companions can enjoy sleeping with us. The Shoreline provided us with sheets to place on the beds for the very same reason. This helped us out, as well as housekeeping. Our canine friends also got dog treats along with a clearly defined dog contract so we were aware of their expectations and there were no miscommunications regarding the possibility of additional cleaning charges.

We will be happy to patronize the Shoreline every time we are in the area :)

Thank you so much for your kind review and your description of our Inn. We are family owned and operated and do have a 72hour cancellation policy, but in extraneous circumstances such as yours we do make exceptions. Thank you also for mentioning our dog contracts; we try to make guests with pets feel welcomed as well and it sounds like you and your dogs had a wonderful time. We hope you and your family are doing well and that we will see you again soon.
