We ended up in Cayucos after some spur-of-the-moment planning for my nine-year-old daughter's spring break. We knew we wanted to see Hearst Castle, but that was our only requirement. When one of our friends heard about this, he recommended staying in Cayucos (he had lived there) and when we checked TripAdvisor, the Cayucos Beach Inn looked like it was worth a try. I was a little unsure of the place as it really caters to people who travel with pets. We have cats who aren't much into car trips, so we don't do this. The last thing I wanted was a room that smelled like someone's dog or (much worse) a flea attack. The reviews were positive, though, so we figured we'd give them a shot.

We ended up with an "ocean view" suite. This was a first floor suite that consisted of a living room/kitchen/sitting room and a separate bedroom. There was a futon in the living room for our daughter and a fairly comfy king bed in the bedroom for us. The room was not fancy by any means, but it had a microwave and a refrigerator and it was very clean. No doggy odors whatsoever.

There was a serviceable continental breakfast served in another room. Pretty standard stuff, but reasonably good quality.

Location was great. In March, anyway, Cayucos appears to be a fairly sleepy town. There aren't a lot of great restaurants, but there are plenty of places to get a decent meal and a good coffeehouse if you want something a step up from the hotel coffee. There's beach access about a block away from the hotel. And of course, you're within easy driving distance of Hearst Castle, Moro Bay, the Paso Robles wineries, and plenty of other wonderful attractions.

Service at the hotel was very good. The people there were very accomodating and pleasant to deal with. The unexpectedly great part of this was the dogs. My daughter loves animals, and both the hotel's staff and many of their guests had plenty of friendly pooches for her to meet and pet. She really loved this aspect of staying there, and it made for a lot of fun for all of us. We hope to get back there next year for spring break.

a great place to stay. we have 2 small children and a dog and it couldnt have been better. the rooms are big and dont stink like someone else's old dog. across the street is a little park with swings and equipment. there is a supermarket next door and beach access is a couple of blocks away. it's a quiet town but very beautiful and the beach is safe for dogs and kids. nothing could be better.

We found the Cayucos Beach Inn a few years ago and have been returning every year since. The rooms are good and do have suites if need extran room. Serves a continental breakfast and staff friendly and helpful if you need anything. Close to beach and market right next door. Also, extremely dog friendly!
So, if in area and have dogs, this is the place.

What a gem! Cayucos reminds me of what Newport Beach was like 30 years ago! A quiet, small town where everything is within walking distance. The beach is beautiful, the weather cool and breezy and the people relaxed and friendly.

The Beach Inn was perfect. I spent a week in room 241 over the breakfast room. My dog and I loved the romp up and down the stairs. Luckily I didn't mind being waken up early by the trash collectors out my window.

The room was extremely large with wonderful windows on each end. Was able to open them in the cool evenings for a wonderful ocean breeze. The room was in perfect condition. Nice size tub in separate room with toilet & door. Double sinks in dressing area with big well lit mirror and wonderfully working hair dryer.

Special touches like the curtain for the closet area.

The pillowtop beds were very comfortable. Linens were very comfortable and the room avoided the usual "dog friendly" problems. Room was very clean.

Nice, large TV with DVD player (you can even rent a huge selection of DVDs in the office). A small dining table with chairs, desk, large clean dresser, small fridge (working at perfect temperature and a tiny freezer that actually worked!), microwave and good sized bar sink. The whole little kitchen area was just spacious enough to give me a great alternative to eating out.

I didn't use the Bar-B-Que area but many others did and enjoyed it very much.

The location was perfect. At one end of the main street, a short walk to the water through a park my dog loved! The park also had alot of equipment for children to play on.

The staff, day and night, were wonderful. Always helpful and professional. The housekeeping staff did an excellent job with wonderful cheery attitudes.

With the perfect location between Morrow Bay and Cambria, I hope I am able to return next year to this gem of a vacation spot.

  • Liked — Lovely accommodations and extremely neat and clean, well kept up.

We had 4 rooms confirmed for our family traveling for my Husbands Daugher's Graduation From CalPoly SLO...and what a FANTASTIC Surprise the Beach Inn was. They were so accommodating to our needs, the expanded pastries, cereals, milk OJ, fresh fruit, coffee etc...was perfect. Our early check-in was honored.

Room #214: Room and a mini-fridge & microwave...double sinks very large and wood blinds for a beach/tropic feel. Walking distance to the beach and easy access to Highway 1.

We had a dinner party in Morro Bay, just 5 miles away...nice drive along the coast. Of course, foggy ..the norm for summer. But that was a relief, since we came for 100+ weather in the valley.

I would stay again...and will recommend the Cayucos Beach Inn in the future.
