“Great Family Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2009

We booked two rooms in the Desert Oasis for a family (two kids ages 1 & 5) weekend trip to Palm Springs.

We enjoyed our stay because the resort is not overcrowded and has a family atmosphere.
Both rooms were spacious and clean with one facing the pool and the other facing the golf course. Throughout our stay we came into contact with different staff members who were all friendly and courteous.

The adjacent golf course is also a plus; the fairways were well kept and the greens were dry and rugged but overall it is a great place to relax and play without overcrowding. The staff in the pro shop was also friendly and flexible with tee times.

The resort is centrally located between Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage which is more convenient because you do not have to drive to far to dine or shop. If you want to BBQ there are several propane grills available and several supermarkets within less-than a five minute drive.

Over all this is a great location for the children to have fun in the pool and to play a couple of rounds of golf for the weekend.

We were a little apprehensive before reaching this resort, as the photos made the apartments looks a little old and jaded, but we were very pleasantly surprised on our late night arrival.
We arrived very late past 9pm - but were fortunate enough to get a pool side room. It was immaculate inside and out, cleaners there 24/7 - it really was spotless. The pool was just fantastic, couldn't get the kids out of it. The kids programmes and rooms were great, table tennis , pool, free internet, dvd hire and popcorn! a great touch. There is a pool side bar but not open for very long, though we had no problem bringing our own food and drink to the pool side. We booked the poolside bbq one night and that was great. Plenty of people about in the day, very friendly bunch. Nowhere you can walk to but always a pleasure to drive and see the mountains. Thoroughly enjoyable stay. cathedral city is very central to everything - palm springs, indian wells etc. A must do is the tram way a thoroughly fantastic experience. Would definately return here - in fact wish we were back there right now.

We just stayed in this resort last weekend for one night (Saturday). I found this location through Hotwire and paid $107/night. The rooms were quite spacious - we had a 1 bedroom suite. We've stayed a the Westin Villas in the past, and those were quite a bit nicer, but this place is a great value. The furnishings were in good condition, although the decor felt a bit dated. The kitchen had teal green tiles in it and needed to be modernized. The suite was immaculate - not a speck of dust or grime. We would definitely stay here again. If you want 'fancy' or 'upscale', this probably isn't the place for you, but if you want a good value, check it out.
By the way, ask for a room with a view of the golf course or the pool - we had a view of the parking lot. The pool is nothing special, but it works!

We have stayed at the Welk Resort in Escondido, so we gave the Desert Oasis a try. This resort is a smaller and older property, but the property is well-maintained and clean with friendly staff, especially the front desk. Our room was clean and nicely furnished. The maids clean your unit once a week, and they come in once a day to empty your trash. We were lucky to get a room in one of the remodeled units with a great view of the golf course. I understand that they haven't completed the remodeling of all the rooms. As for amenities, they have one main pool, but situated steps above the snack bar is the adult only section. This is a gated narrow area with a 3-lane lap pool. and on one end of the length of the pool are the lounge chairs and there's some tables and chairs in another small section there. We played bingo once and joined the Welk-um champagne party and the Activities Info Breakfast. We played horseshoes once, which is located right outside the pool, and we played a couple games of billiards in their rec room. Cathedral City is between Rancho Mirage and Palm Springs where there's lots of shopping and dining options. Rent a car and venture out - there's lots of places to go to hike or go for nature walks, like the Joshua National Park or the Agua Caliente Indian Canyons; and the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is a must, as far as I'm concerned. If you're a golfer, this is the place for you because the golf course is very pretty, and the cost is cheap - I think they said it was $15 for a round of golf after 3:00pm, and that included the golf cart. Made us want to take up golf. Overall, it was a nice week.

We had planned a weeks vacation at the Desert Oasis with our kids. On our arrival we were assigned a room facing Cathedral Canyan Dr which is a busy four lane road. After a fairly sleepless night due to the noise of passing cars I went to the front desk and asked to me moved to another room. The response was "we don't really do that as it makes more work for our cleaning staff".
The concierge also spent a large amount of time trying to convince us to go to the timeshare presentation even after I said that I wasn't interested. We also got a call early the next morning after check in again asking if we wanted to go to the presentation.
As a result of the poor service we decided to leave after one night and found something better. Would not recommend this resort.

Great place. Initial sense on arrival was that the lobby was not impressive and resort was "tired". However, after week stay, we were quite pleased with service and excellent staff. Rooms comfortable and well appointed. We really liked the special arrangement with Cathedral canyon Golf club which was very convenient. We did not get around to using what looked like great pool facilities but did enjoy the champagne get together on the first day.

  • Liked — Arrangement and proximity with Golf Course
  • Disliked — View was uninteresting (parking lot)

We've owned this resort as a timeshare for several years but had never visited it and decided it was time. We had one of the newly remodeled rooms and it was very nicely done. The rooms are a tad smaller than the Marriott's but the furniture and decor are just as nice. It is very family oriented and very friendly. It's essentially made up of lot's of older folk and young families- perfect for us with two small children but maybe not the most happening spot for singles. The atmosphere was great- most of the people that go are owners and are very friendly. The front desk staff and concierge are very friendly. The activities staff was a little un-interested and immature. Beautiful views of the gold course. Overall, if you get one of the nicer remodeled rooms and are looking for a smaller golf or family-oriented resort- this is definitely the place for you. Not too much to eat nearby- you'll need to head to Downtown Palm Springs or The River in Racho Mirage for more options.

  • Liked — Nice Room, nice people, lot's of activities
  • Disliked — Rude activities people, cranky old people, distant from restaurant options
