“Great Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2008

Great place. Initial sense on arrival was that the lobby was not impressive and resort was "tired". However, after week stay, we were quite pleased with service and excellent staff. Rooms comfortable and well appointed. We really liked the special arrangement with Cathedral canyon Golf club which was very convenient. We did not get around to using what looked like great pool facilities but did enjoy the champagne get together on the first day.

  • Liked — Arrangement and proximity with Golf Course
  • Disliked — View was uninteresting (parking lot)

We've owned this resort as a timeshare for several years but had never visited it and decided it was time. We had one of the newly remodeled rooms and it was very nicely done. The rooms are a tad smaller than the Marriott's but the furniture and decor are just as nice. It is very family oriented and very friendly. It's essentially made up of lot's of older folk and young families- perfect for us with two small children but maybe not the most happening spot for singles. The atmosphere was great- most of the people that go are owners and are very friendly. The front desk staff and concierge are very friendly. The activities staff was a little un-interested and immature. Beautiful views of the gold course. Overall, if you get one of the nicer remodeled rooms and are looking for a smaller golf or family-oriented resort- this is definitely the place for you. Not too much to eat nearby- you'll need to head to Downtown Palm Springs or The River in Racho Mirage for more options.

  • Liked — Nice Room, nice people, lot's of activities
  • Disliked — Rude activities people, cranky old people, distant from restaurant options

My wife and I were looking for a place to stay in the Palm Springs area for about a week. There are several "Time Share" and condos available but we had not heard too much about many of them and didn't want to risk having a bad location or an unkempt place. Having seen Lawrence Welk's resort in Escondido, CA and what a nice place it was, we thought we'd take a chance on the Welk property in Cathedral City (near Palm Springs).
Upon our arrival we were both presently impressed. We were greeted by a cheerful and helpful desk clerk. We were offered our choice of two different apartments, upper or lower. All the rooms are one bedroom at this resort, but they are very large and extremely comfortable. We chose the upper floor. The condo was fully stocked with all the dishes, glasses and silverware one could ever need. We had a blender, toaster microwave, coffee maker with plenty of filters, a dishwasher with soap and a refrigerator with a great ice maker. The bedroom was large with a walk in closet. There were tow TV's, one in the bedroom and one in the living room. The entire property was very clean. There was daily maid service provided at NO additional cost.
There are two pools, one for adults only. We hung out at the other pool and had a great time reading and catching some sun. There are planned activities for adults as well as kids. The thing that sticks out the most is the friendliness of all the staff that we had contact with. The concierge was very knowledgeable about the area and also helpful, with a smile.
If you are looking for A 5 Star resort, this is probably not what you want, but it's a great place to stay for a relatively low cost. If you want a great location with all the benefits of a fine resort, give this place a look.

  • Liked — Clean and fully stocked.

Not luxury, but really nice, and a perfect place for the family. The pool center was well equipped (excepting the fact that they had no beach or volleyballs to play with), and the rooms/condos themselves were comfortable and tasteful. I believe all of the condos are one bedroom, with a hide-away in the living room, which could present problems for a larger family.

The recreation center was great... pool tables, ping-pong, poker night, movie rentals, little classes and activities throughout the day. Everyone was helpful and kind. It kind of felt a like summer camp, but that is nice for kids. And there is a quiet adult lap pool for those who don't want to be at summer camp.

We went in the heat of the summer, so I would imagine it is less busy at that time. I am not sure how the experience compares during peak tourist season.

It is a close driving distance from shops and theaters, but not walking distance.

Fun Area Attractions:
The Mt. San Jacinto Tram to the state park at 9,000 ft. elevation... a refreshing getaway in the summer and a winter wonderland from December-March.
Golfing behind the resort ($1 a hole).

Good Restaurants:
Babe's (Southern BBQ, $12-$18 dinner)
Mimi's Cafe (Something for everyone! and a sweet atmosphere, $9-$18 dinner)
Yard House (Best Fries! and a fresh menu, $10- $18 dinner)

  • Liked — The Pool Facilities and Recreation Center
  • Disliked — No volleyballs for the pool and not within walking distance to shops
