“Carmel Valley Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

I have discovered the most charming café. Baum and Blume & The Carriage House is located in Carmel Valley Village, just off of Carmel Valley Rd at 4 El Caminito Rd. The Cafe is open Monday through Saturday offering a lunch and dinner menu with a waffle breakfast on Saturdays. The menu changes weekly and each Saturday, they offer 2 different flavor waffles. Their cuisine is absolutely amazing.

Recently, I had the pleasure of joining 12 library staff for a last minute birthday breakfast celebration. The owners accommodated us by opening early and preparing a special menu. The breakfast menu consisted of 3 delectable gourmet options (Avocado Huevos Rancheros, Orange-scented Belgian Waffle with Blueberries and Citrus Cream and Warm Soufflé Egg Roulade) and the service was impeccable. As a special treat, Baum and Blume surprised us birthday girls with a gourmet truffle for dessert.

The library staff left the Café feeling happy and content with a shared enthusiasm, anticipating the next quarterly birthday celebration.

“one of the best kept secrets”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2011

A small gem of a place. Hand-picked well thought-out store and handcrafted food offer so much to look forward to as you drive into Carmel Valley Village (yes, there is such a thing.)

There is a beautiful outside seating if the weather is good, and the holiday mailer they send out is a lot of fun. This is a family owned place and they put a lot of effort into everything they do.

Price is not unreasonable considering the remote location and given that they cook everything from scratch on-site. Given the quality, care and attention, they are down right well priced. The open house is always fun and a foodie love affair.
Be prepared to stick around for your next round of hors d'oeuvres and their recounting of trips and food.

Their expertise on food shows at every turn. Whatever is on the special, get it!!

There is a big growth of cactus by the parking, so watch your kids!

Ladies, say hi to Derek if he is minding the store when you go there. He is really nice.

“A gem for consistency & unique offerings within Carmel Valley Village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2010

The food, festivities, boutique and folks are always delightful at this very creative and deightful establishment. In my 10 years of selecting some gourmet take-out at the end of a day , attending their special events (dinners, St. Patrick Day's luncheon with guests, an annual Holiday venue) or stepping into the Carriage House for a gift, card or plant, I've been extremely pleased with Baum & Blume fare. Everyone listens to what you may like and suggests how your appetite or interests may best be met. For visitors, it's a real find in between wine tasting or a special event, whlie for locals like me, it's so easy to swing by after a postal run and check out the displayed menu on El Caminito or their website to see the generous extent of their daily offerings. As caterers, B&B selections are clients consider them must have and top-notch! They are an active, welcome presence to Monterey Penisula food affairs and charitable venues, where their presentations and energies are distinctively in the top of the class with their freshness and welcomed flourishes. Go discover and return again to enjoy Baum & Blume's unique offerings. (And The Carriage House, too!).

“Headline: Great Hidden Bistro for Lunch in Carmel Valley Village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2007

This sweet little place on a side street off of Carmel Valley Road is so unpretentious you might drive right past it -- and never have a quintessential Carmel Valley dining experience.,,,, But no! Don't miss it -- map it, and go.
When you arrive, ask for a shady table on the tiny grassy patio ... ask for the wine of your choice from fine local vineyards ... and sit back for a relaxing luncheon. The owners are friendly and extremely knowledgeable about gourmet foods; they travel to France every year to learn more about what's being served in the land where God goes to dine. Whether you want locally grown fresh produce, naturally raised meat dishes, or just a nice little plate of carefully selected cheeses and fruit, accompanied by some fine bread and that wine you're sipping -- you'll enjoy whatever you choose from the fairly limited but wisely composed menu of the day. I wish they served dinners, but currently it's just lunch and afternoon snacks with tea; however you can order take-out, for an al-fresco supper at your chosen Carmel Valley hostelry.
