It's still low-season in Carmel, so this was very affordable, and much nicer than a sterile chain motel for about the same price. When I called for a reservation, the innkeeper, Mike, was very patient and helpful. He offered us an end room when I asked about whether it would be quiet. As is turned out, there were hardly any guests at all - off season is very slow in Carmel --- and the best time to go, in my opinion.
The queen bed was comfortable, and there was also a small day bed in the room. Also a small refrigerator. No hair dryer, but was told they're available at the front office. Tile shower was clean, and hot water plentiful. I really liked that the floors were wood, and not the dingy carpet you see in some places. The whole ambiance was very warm and comfortable.
I did notice an area where they hold events outdoors, so if you're concerned about noise, ask in advance if there are any events planned when you want to go.
If you want something fancier, I believe they have some rooms with fireplaces, and other amenities. I would recommend calling them to ask.
Overall, I would recommend this place.
We didn't try the restaurant or saloon, but there were plenty of cars parked there in the evening, which is probably a good sign.
Within driving distance to Garland Park, which is a great walking/hiking area with a view of the whole valley from the top.
Also within driving distance to Carmel Valley Village - lots of wine tasting there, and some cute shops and restaurants. Also driving distance to Point Lobos - a must-see!
