One of the closest places to Pebble Beach, we arrived and found every person we encountered smiling and helpful
The nighttime chocolate chip cookies are superb in the morning breakfast is even better The location is less than a mile from 17 mile drive and the entrance to Pebble Beach and just walking distance to all the shops and restaurants in Carmel we had two rooms and they were both very nice

Before booking this hotel you should know a few a few things. First, this hotel does not have air conditioning, so in warmer weather (as it was when we were there) we had to sleep with the windows open. Normally I like doing this, but the problem here was that the streets the hotel is on are quite noisy until later at night. We had to change rooms twice before we got something fairly quiet and , although the staff was helpful, they did have a bit of an attitude about things.

Second, the hotel is not right in town, and although the walk is only about three blocks the roads are not lit and are pretty dark after dinner. There is a shuttle for pickups that we should have used since we almost fell a couple times in the dark. It is only a few blocks from the beach, where we had a nice morning walk along the ocean.

Third, the hotel is about 100 years old and has smallish rooms. Really nothing special. Our last room was so cramped that we could not even open both of our suitcases at the same time. Almost Manhattan-like.

The breakfast was good and the patio is pretty nice. The hotel rates an average score in my opinion, and at $450 per night is not cheap, although this is Carmel and most places are pricey.

This place should be considered an upscale Motel at best. The service was horrendous. Arrived in the late afternoon, along with many others that must have been with a group. I was shunned by one of the front desk personnel (won't mention any names). They told me that they needed to take care of this group first and then they would be right with me. I waited for exactly 17 minutes in the lobby without a single word from any of their staff. This 17 minute wait allowed me to research online other hotels in Carmel that I could move to. I went to the front desk and told the individual working to cancel my reservation as I was taking my business to another hotel. They shrugged their shoulders as if they could care less. Needless to say, I stayed at Cypress Inn. Good job, La Playa - you lost a frequent traveler that stays on the Peninsula about 55 times a year.

The hotel was beautiful, we stayed in a standard room and it was very big, comfortable, the bathroom was wonderful and I liked a lot the amenities included.
The breakfast was delicious, we enjoyed the view from the restaurant a lot.
The gardens, the flowers, all the decoration was beautiful.
Service was outstanding, everyone is pleased to attend you. They have a free shuttle and it is very comfortable to use to go out to have dinner.
La Playa Hotel is like two blocks from the beach where we made a picnic taking some wine and cheese from the cheese store and had a wonderful time watching the wonderful sunset!
I wanted us to stay longer but I will come back some day...

Everything about this hotel was wonderful from the minute we set foot in it until we checked out. Met with a cold glass of champagne, greeted warmly by the staff, the concierge did a great job, having the shuttle service, the wine and cheese in the evening, milk and cookies, and last but not least, the champagne breakfast was fabulous !!! LOVED LOVED LOVED this hotel !!!!!

Room Tip: No elevator, so ask for a first floor room if navigating steps would be a problem.

We're staying at La Playa for a combination business/pleasure trip and having a great time. The building and grounds are very well maintained. Room quality and service is exceptional. Standard rooms include fine linens, top of the line bath products, and unlimited glass bottled water. The champagne breakfast buffet thats included is one of the best I've seen for an inclusive option. I only have good things to say! Thank you La Playa!
