A friend of ours recommended this hotel, so we booked it and we had a lovely stay. It's very close to the beach/ocean and only a few blocks from all the lovely, charming shops and cafes of Carmel (Mission Street/Ocean Avenue). I actually walked to them and it literally took no more than 12 minutes or so (uphill). The room was a decent size and clean, the bathroom was a little small for my taste but it is a pretty old building so it looks like they've tried to remodel it but keeping a cottage feel. The room did face the street, which was okay, although you could hear a little bit of the outside noise because the windows are not double-paned (that would be a nice upgrade if they could do that, also bc the cold air seeps in). If the rooms had a fireplace, even a small one, that would make it a bit cozier and warmer. Note there is no elevator, so do keep in mind if you are not on the first floor you will be carrying your luggage up flights of stairs. The lobby entrance is very beautiful and cozy with a large fireplace, makes you feel like you're at a lodge. The complimentary breakfast had a good variety and was very tasty, not to mention the views of the property and the ocean are stunning. The daily yummy Ghirardelli chocolates on the pillows was a nice touch; also the fact that every time we left the room and came back it seems that they had somehow turned on the heater for us, so the room was nice and warm (a very nice gesture considering it was 30-something degree weather outside).
