We recently stayed at the Dolphin Inn in November , 2013, our son and his wife, our grand kids live about a mile up the hill from here. This was our first experience staying an a local b and b , as they are renovating their home, and we welcomed the opportunity to enjoy a bit of space, and also a location close to Carmel for the shops and the restaurants..........yet we were enjoyably close to our family and that was our first priority! Ok first and foremost............we arrived local time 11 pm., eastern time from our Sarasota, Florida time zone this was 2 am after a work day............ok yes we are still working!!! Dolphin Inn closes prior to the arrival time yet, we were so happy that they confirmed our room, and told us where the key would be so when we did arrive, we opened the door, and Ricky, the attendant who told us where the key would be, had so kindly, turned on the fireplace, and the bedroom was so welcoming we just melted into the bed! The bed, a king, was comfortable, and linens so clean, so wonderful, it was just what was needed after a night of travel that was ............not horrible.........but long and tiring, after a day of work for both of us!! We arrived, and we mentioned it was our 41st anniversary, we were going to Carmel to see our grandkids, ages 6, and 4, yet we hoped for some solitude and quiet for just us, and when we arrived, the fireplace on, the bed so welcoming, a bottle of wine and some snacks..................what a gift! We could have cried, it was so wonderful to have a few moments to relax and it was COLD in carmel compared to our local Sarasota Weather!! We loved the Dolphin Inn . It is an older place, not fancy........quiet, yes and that was first and foremost for us! We spent most of our time at our family' s home a mile away in Carmel........at night we would return, enjoyed the peace and quiet here. Our room was clean, neat, new carpet, the bathroom was very small, and there could be improvements here, as it was quite dated, but it was very clean and to us that was all that mattered........We had a rickety armoire that we used for our clothes, but that needs to go! Just get a cheap one at Target or Pier ONE forget the ambience of the antiques, just get a new one please!! My husband has sleep apnea, and uses a BIPAP machine, and there was not a plug nearby to the bed......so that is why we are giving only 4 stars, because it is useful to have electrical support for those who are medically compromised. However, the cleanliness, and the friendliness of Ricky and the housekeeping team , really made our trip ..........We look forward to spending time here again.....We had a glimpse of the ocean from our room # 23..... not a great view, but we were mostly at our son's home up the street! Our time was precious ( a long weekend) and it was for us important to see our grand children, so we did not explore the area, but there are some great places within walking distance, and in particular I want to mention the Village Corner, where we enjoyed breakfast, and have also in the past, multiple times........deilcious! Also the Dolphin provides a continental breakfast each day in a cooler outside the room........we enjoyed fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, croissants, or bagels, and this was another great feature of staying here. Also, we were pleasantly surprised, one night but we found out later, every night, or afternoon, they provide fresh cookies in the lobby.....we happened to find this on our last night as I was providing our credit card and my grand children were with me, and the woman at the desk went into the refrig and offered them cookies and candy which they devoured happily! What a pleasant surprise!! Thank you Dolphin Inn, we had a great stay! If any improvements are needed here it is just updating, not any negative remarks.....We look forward to staying again, everything is close by....handy and it is a smaller place, so that makes it very special
Upstairs you might get a room with a view of the ocean although it is not close to the ocean. We sta...
