I recently returned from a three-night stay at Carmel Valley Ranch with my parents, my significant other, my brother and his significant other. When we arrived in the late evening, we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff as well as make-your-own s'more at the main lodge near the pool. The s’mores were delicious and fun! Notably, the resort had gone out of its way to make sure all three of our families' rooms were near each other.

The room itself was flawless - large, airy, and well-appointed, with comfortable beds and pillows, and amenities including a fireplace, balcony, refrigerator, and DVD player. The bathroom was also huge with dual sinks, separate toilet, stand-alone shower and soaking tub. Lavender-scented bath amenities round out the loveliness of the room. The only complaint about the bathroom would be the showerhead. It seems that everything except the showerhead was upgraded during the renovation.

Our family took full advantage of the resort. The men played two rounds of golf and loved the course. We also worked out everyday, including taking yoga classes. The resort has two separate workout rooms with new equipment and offers group fitness classes. I had a Therapeutic Massage at the spa. In addition to a fantastic massage, special attention to detail like a heated neck warmer when I arrived and a cupcake following the massage made the spa even better. Wet amenities are limited to a steam room in the locker room. Outside the spa, however, there are two infinity Jacuzzis and a saline pool. Finally, the service was impeccable. One morning we had to wait a few minutes for breakfast, Melanie, one of the managers, brought around freshly baked coffee cake to accompany the coffee that was available all morning. The resort also furnishes warm apple cider and holiday cookies at night.

Overall, I would recommend the Carmel Valley Ranch to any traveler who loves high-end hotels with personal touches. You will not be disappointed.

Never visiting Carmel before, I did not really know where to stay. In my research, I found Carmel Valley Ranch and was really impressed by the information on their website. I also liked the fact that they just had reopened a couple of months prior, so I anticipated a really fresh property. Turns out I was right. The decor is what I would call California chic rustic. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the location was convenient to both Carmel-by-the-sea and Carmel Village, and the setting was just gorgeous. We loved our suite (fireplaces in both the living area and bedroom, wraparound porch that felt like we were in a treehouse) and loved the wildlife we saw each day. We enjoyed the spa (great massages by Lisha) and had a lovely dinner after chatting with the friendly bartender. Overall, a fantastic stay and we'd return in a heartbeat. The only two "negatives" are that at the time we stayed, room service was still not available after the reopening of the property, and on our first day we called for service on the fireplace in the bedroom, and no one came for hours! When maintenance did show up, the fireplace was working at that time. When I described the problem, the maintenance worker said it sounded like the batteries were failing, but instead of replacing them, he said to call back if it stopped working again! I felt this was not appropriate, and it the reason I graded the property's service just at average.

Just came back from a very relaxing 6-day stay at the Carmel Valley Ranch.
Our room was very comfortable and had an incredible view of the valley. The beds were like clouds one could just sink into and we never slept better.
All the personnel we came in contact with was very ready to please.
In general, the service was outstanding.
The new Aiyana spa is cozy and welcoming and we had some excellent massages.

The concierge, Gabrielle Wagemakers gave us fine recommendations about the local restaurants and we were thrilled with the results.

Given our particular situation in terms of mobility, we made good use of the golfcarts which were always ready to pick us up at a moment's notice.

The Ranch did a marvelous job with the renovations and we'll be recommending it without hesitation.

As soon as you arrive to the Carmel Valley Ranch you receive a warm greeting. All of the staff are very helpful and kind. The rooms are so comfortable, with a fireplace in each room, to give you not only the warmth, but the atmosphere as well. Just a short distance from the rooms is fine dining at the lodge, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also at the lodge is a large swimming pool, with a hot tub close by. The kids love it. We hope to return soon. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway.

The rooms are large, with two fireplaces. Most have sweeping views of the tranquil Carmel Valley countryside from the decks of rooms. The hotel staff is friendly and outgoing. They've done an amazing job with the remodel, but more than that, have focused on making stays FUN for guests!

We came down from Palo Alto for the weekend. I worried the trip would be too short, but had one of the best Saturdays of my life. We began the day early and joined Bjorn for a few hour hike on one of the Ranch's trails running through the hills. The hike culminated with stunning views of the Bay, Carmel Valley, and Big Sur forests.

We spent the rest of the day down in Big Sur, having brunch at Deetjen's, reading the paper at Henry Miller library, and ice tea overlooking the Pacific from Napenthe (appropriately, Greek for "without sorrow"). We took in the sunset over oysters and wine at Post Ranch Inn, followed by a wonderful four course dinner. We headed down to the Fernwood hotel to listen to live music for a couple of hours and headed back to the hotel. The night concluded with me and my sweetheart listening to the music on the iPod dock in front of the fire.

We arrived late in the afternoon and crossed the park gates after being welcomed by the guard. We drove through the huge domain to the reception for checking in while the bellman was parking the car, and were then taken to our suite/bengallow by golf cart. The room looked fantastic, with a homely atmosphere. 2 fire places, a terrace overlooking the woods, a big bedroom and very good size bathroom. We had the much needed feeling to be alone in the world. Priceless. After relaxing a little, we hit the dining room. It was nicely decorated with a lounge area next to a big fireplace, and the food was just great and not too pricey. They also have a nice collection of wines and we were even invited into the cellar. The whole atmosphere looks like the environment is cared for. The hotel offers loads of free activities that, unfortunately we couldn't try because we had to leave in the morning - after a good breakfast - to see the 17 mile drive. I will definitely go back there.
Note: the honey and lavender bath/shower gel and shampoo are not for sale in their shop yet, but they will be soon apparently.

This resort has recently undergone a multi million dollar renovation and no detail has been forgotten! The magnificent setting is a perfect base, above the cool Carmel fog yet a short drive in. The rooms are spacious and luxurious and ours had a fireplace. We had a very enjoyable meal sitting by the fire in the dining room, Even the room service coffee was good! We will come back again and stay longer next time!....10 out of 10!
