5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

Wow, what a great experience. We will certainly be staying here again. We were only there for one night and we were sorry we had to leave. They even had free waters and free snacks in the room. Such a nice surprise. It is pricey however it is well worth it.

We are delighted that you enjoyed The Ranch and thank you for taking the time to say so! You are right - one night is simply not enough to enjoy all that we have to offer. We certainly hope to welcome you back for a longer stay next time. And as you mentioned, our rates do command a premium, there is tremendous value included for what you pay. The complimentary waters and natural snacks that we provide our guests are only a small part of the many touches we offer around the property. From our spacious suites that comfortably accommodate a family of 4, to our many unique offerings like strolling through our vineyard and organic garden and our new chicken coop, to learning about our salthouse, and our bees and of course our nightly s'more offerings, the list continues to grow! Thank you for noticing that and we look forward to your next visit. Sincerely, Melanie Cooke, Manager

We had the pleasure of staying at the Ranch for three nights travelling down to San Diego along Highway 1. Having stayed over the years in many 5 star hotels, this establishment beats the lot. We stayed in 313 and had the most amazing view across the valley and the golf course. The facilities were most excellent, the food amazing and the overall friendliness of the staff was staggering. This was a wonderful find and will delight visitors any time of the year.

Room Tip: We stayed at room/suite 313 and believe this to be an excellent location especially for views acros...

Thank you for your response to what was obviously a memorable time at The Ranch! You are correct - suite 313 is one of our premium Hilltop Ranch suites and offers stunning views of Carmel Valley from your private deck. Well worth the price and in high demand by our guests! Thank you, and we look forward to welcoming you back. Sincerely, Melanie Cooke, Manager

We really like this place and if we are in Carmel, we always end up here. They have great service, wonderful restaurant, amazing staff and the suites are wonderful! The long walks around this huge property is like no other. Smell of fresh crisp air mix with pine and real wood fire place is just what we needed to unwind. Highly recommended no matter what season it is.

My husband and I booked this hotel as a last minute weekend getaway. We found a great deal through one of the clubs that we belong to and we wanted to take advantage of the long weekend. This hotel is absolutely amazing. The staff is super friendly and accommodating, the grounds are extremely well kept, and the rooms are OUTSTANDING. We couldn't believe how much you got for the hotel rate. This is such an amazing value for what is actually might be worth. We have stayed at some really nice hotels and this has to be one of our favorites so far. What we loved the most was how spacious our room was and how clean and updated the facilities were.

I would venture to say this may become more of a frequent weekend getaway. They have an amazing gym and they offer several classes (which is great). They have a great centralized location. We felt SO relaxed after leaving.

Also great how they have an adults only pool and the family pool is just down the hill. Makes it a very relaxing and fabulous place. This place is also great for families. It seems that it accommodates couples, families, athletes, spa-goers.... it really has everything.

We will be back soon!

Room Tip: Any room is great!!

15 girlfriends just spent a 3-day weekend at the Carmel River Ranch and LOVED it, we all plan on returning to the Ranch either together or with our families/significant others in the future. Here are some reasons why the Carmel Valley Ranch was great for our girls' weekend:
-GREAT suite options - double/double bedded rooms with a fold-out couch meant 3 of us could share the room comfortably. Lovely accommodations!!
-S'MORES! Just ask poolside, and a platter of ingredients will be delivered to your fire pit! We all ate smores to our hearts' content all weekend long.
-BEAUTIFUL setting. Loved the layout of the hotel, pools, facilities. Loved seeing wild turkeys preening, and deer at dawn and dusk.
-HIKES - well-marked trails made it easy to get out and about
-ACTIVITIES - we all wished we stayed longer in order to take advantage of more yoga, fitness classes, crafts, and WINE tasting
-RESTAURANTS - delicious food
-TOP NOTCH SERVICE - without being snooty. Totally accommodating staff every step of the way. Thank you!
-RESORT FEE made us not feel guilty about having to tip every single fabulous team member we encountered.

If I could do my Ranch visit all over again, the only thing I'd do different is I wouldn't have the fabulous 90 minute Arnica sports massage that I had. I thought the price ($254 after a 20% gratuity is automatically added) was overpriced for the limited spa facilities at the Ranch spa. It was a great massage, just for that sort of money I expected a spa that I'd want to lounge in all day... if that's my biggest complaint then it's a good problem to have!

Highly recommended for a girls' getaway where you don't want flashing lights and wild nightlife (unless you call the hundreds of moths at the door every night "wild", which it was!) We loved feeling rested and pampered at the Carmel Valley Ranch and can't wait to return.

Room Tip: We got a Western Athletic Club membership discount through our membership in the Bay Club.

Thank you so very much for your incredibly thorough post and comments! You touched on every area in such detail and it is truly nice to know that you and your girlfriends were able to enjoy so much of what the resort offers. You touched on a significant point and that is the attraction of The Ranch for girls getaways. In fact, check out our website soon for our new "Girl's Getaway Package" which we are launching within the next week or so! And regarding your Spa Aiyana offering, there may be something a bit special and exclusive we can offer your group of friends on your next visit to allow you to enjoy it even more and 'spend the day' there. We love tailoring your experience personally to you, and would welcome the opportunity to do that. Thank you again for your post, and please let me know personally when you plan your next visit to The Ranch! Sincerely, Melanie Cooke, Manager, 831-626-2548

I have a young family and we drove down from San Francisco to go to the aquarium in Monterey. I found this hotel online and was a little nervous as finding suitable accommodation for us when we have young children, my son was 15 months and daughter 3 years old, is not easy. This place blue us away. The lodge was warm and comfortable. We slept really well and the bathroom was really good. Though it was the small touches that made it special.

The child bibs left in the room. The toiletries for the children. And when my son got jealous because he wanted one of the ducks after mentioning it at reception another appeared at our door. For my daughter the golf carts really made the trip from our room to breakfast and dinner an adventure. The marshmallows by the open pit fire after dinner. The list goes on, however, none of that could beat my daughter running around the wood exploring and watching the giant wild turkeys or reindeer.

This is a family resort that made our stay that bit more pleasurable. I will recommend this hotel and gladly stay again.

It always makes me smile when I read that we were able to provide such wonderful memories to our guests. And as you mentioned, it was the little things that we took the time to notice and provide that made the difference to your time here. Thank you for taking the time to share that. The deer, turkeys and our Ranch Team hope to welcome you and your family back to the resort again should your travels bring you stateside again! Sincerely, Melanie Cooke, Manager

We decided to stay here for a weekend because Jetsetter was having such an amazing deal, and we just fell in love with the hotel! The entire hotel and property has such a relaxing, retreat-like feel to it. We had a Garland suite, which was awesome - 1100 sq ft, modern and comfortable furnishings, luxe amenities and linens, two fireplaces, great wraparound deck. The bathroom was really spacious - big walk-in closet, big shower, separate bathtub, two sinks, etc., and the body products they provide are wonderful. We ate two meals here, a breakfast and a dinner, and both were outstanding. We brought our Bernese Mountain dog (there's a $150 one-time fee) and he loved it too! They were very accommodating to his needs and ours, everyone was very friendly and eager to help in any way. The only semi-negative thing I can say about it is the River Ranch family pool - we had to take a shuttle to get down to it, and the pool was on the small side, considering how many families were there. Our girls felt it was too crowded, so we left after maybe 20 minutes. We didn't want to wait 10-15 min for the shuttle to pick us up, so we decided to walk back to our room - a nice, long uphill walk but worth it because we got to walk through the golf course, the area where they keep the honeybees, their organic garden, a chicken coop, fields of lavender, their vineyard, and past several deer and turkeys. It was absolutely gorgeous and we were so happy we did it. We know Carmel and CV extremely well, as my parents have a house here, so we are familiar with and have stayed at many other Carmel hotels, and I have to say this one is absolutely the best. We can't WAIT to come back and stay again!

Room Tip: The Garland suites are all corner rooms - sunnier and with 2 fireplaces as opposed to just one in th...

Dear Camila, thank you for your post and for sharing your family's experience with us. And while the limited special you enjoyed is what brought you here for your initial visit, we hope to welcome you and your family back again and again. The resort offers a variety of packages and promotions tailored to provide a meaningful experience to each guests' interests. I love that you mentioned how your walk up the hill back to your suite turned into such a special experience and enjoyment for your family. There is so much to see and do here, and our shuttles can certainly whisk you to and from our many activities, but sometimes it is the unexpected slower and leisurely times that provide such wonderful moments to remember. A bit like 'stopping to smell the roses', or in our case, lavender! I do apologize that our River Ranch pool felt too small for you - even though it is junior Olympic size, I realize its popularity during busy times can create a high energy atmosphere not enjoyed by everyone. Rest assured, we are working on that and we appreciate you sharing that with us. Thank you again, and we look forward to your next visit. Please feel free to contact me personally if I may assist with a future reservation. Sincerely, Melanie Cooke, 831-262-2548
