“Most Magical Place in California; Four Seasons Ain't Got Nothing on the Ranch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013 via mobile

This is a return trip for us. Our first was a romantic couples retreat and the Ranch blew us away. This time we came for spring break with our two kids - 8 and 10.

The Ranch is a dream getaway for families: a separate kids pool and recreation area, a casual store with smoothies, shaved ice and plenty of fruit, basketball courts, grassy lawn for sports, swings on oak trees throughout the resort and nightly s'mores. What more could you ask for!? Well, there are also beautiful hikes and native wildlife (deer, buzzards, hawks, wild turkeys). We missed the bees and the apiary this time but I've heard it's wonderful for kids. Don't forget to say hi to Roxy, the resident pooch.

The staff was warm and accommodating. Meals were delicious. Housekeeping could have been a bit more organized but honestly how upset can you get in a place this laid back?

Come and enjoy the native beauty of California showcased in a luxurious yet casual resort. Feel your blood pressure drop and understand why I love my state!

This is our third stay at CVR and it gets better with each stay. We've gone with and without our kids and either way we are made to feel so welcome.such a perfect place to chill out! I always buy extra bath products at the spa shop because they have the most amazing signature scent. Our Corgi loves her special bed and treats she gets when she visits too. The Staff is super accommodating without making you feel like you are bugging them. We love this place!

My co-workers and I stayed here for one night, and all enjoyed ourselves very much! The accommodations are very spacious with the sleeping and lounging/TV area separated by a very large bathroom. Some of us had beautiful views of the valley and golf course, while others of us (myself included) only had a view of some trees. My recommendation, as another reviewer suggested, is to request a room with a valley view. We had a team dinner at the main restaurant -- the service was excellent and the food was great. Half of us had spa treatments and although the treatments all had good reviews, the spa itself was rather small and I would've expected a larger lounge area for the prices paid. The other half of our group golfed, and no complaints there! The rooms are far from the main building, so some walking is required - nothing too far, but if you go when the weather is cooler (it was about 40's for us) it does make you want to stay put. The grounds are beautiful, but you will need a car to get to the main Carmel town as it is not within walking distance. You are somewhat "trapped" on the resort property, but if you are there to do nothing but relax, then this is a perfect place!

This was such a nice place for our family with three children ages 6-14. There was something for everyone. Mom and dad loved the yoga and the hikes and being able to sit by the pool and sip a margarita while the kids swam; older sister went horseback riding on the beach with a local outfit recommended by the front desk; 10 y.o. son did a golf camp at the ranch then went golfing with dad; 6 y.o. son was excited about the bee class. Additionally we enjoyed Carmel and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Our room was very comfortable and we were surprised that the one bedroom suite accommodated our family of five quite well. Great housekeeping services that made up the hide-a-bed for us every night. The food was good and the servers kind, but the service was very slow at both the restaurant and the pool cafe. If you're relaxed and on vacation however (and you bring snacks for the kids), this isn't much of a problem. We LOVED the s'mores every night. Highly recommend Carmel Vally Ranch!

Room Tip: We had a corner Garland Suite which we really liked, lots of light, wrap around deck.

We visited for one night on our drive down to LA from Sf. The first room we received was nice but was a "forest view" which was actually a view of the area between the buildings. And right of the balcony there was a view of basically an outhouse building. I called the front desk as I was not pleased with the view (especially at $400/night) and was upgraded to a room with a great view. Food was great in the restaraunt, staff all very helpful, my wife had an awesome massage in the spa. Excellent short stay... We will be back and will stay longer next time.

500 acres of some flatlands and hotel situated on a hill. Almost anywhere you went it was either uphill out or back. Very friendly staff who go out of their way to assist. Restaurant excellent. Adult pool but too cold when we were there to swim even though it was heated. Heated or not, you still had to get out sometime. Salt water.
Golf OK at best, but tough to compete with some of the world renouned courses just about 1/2 hour away.
Rooms comfortable and spacious. Fireplace was wonderful a night or two when temps dropped.
Would return in a heartbeat.
Thank you.

Room Tip: Try to get an end unit. Many more windows and larger deck. Also quite often a better view.

We enjoyed another wonderful Birthday celebration in the relaxing, beauty of the Carmel Valley Ranch. Our favorite place to visit in Carmel. The staff is great, so attentive to all of of needs. The room service breakfast was deliciously fresh! The rooms are so big and feel so comfortable, so easy to relax, with great porches that look out on the beauty of the valley. We always enjoy a good walk around the property, and the hiking trails are amazingly beautiful! We highly recommend the Carmel Valley Ranch for your next stay in Carmel, for the relaxing, the great food, the wonderful staff, and the many activities available for all ages!!
