“Beautiful Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2012

This place is fantastic. From the moment you drive up to the lodge your stay will be wonderful. We were greeted by deer grazing on grass upon arriving. the resort is beautiful and exceptionally maintained. Food is delicious, and everybody is very helpful. Plenty to do in town which is a short drive away and they even have a dog beach close by.

Rooms are very spacious and very quiet. Pool is very clean and hot tub is amazing. Smores are served nightly by the pool/fireplace and you don't want to miss out on that. If you are thinking about staying here.. think no more, book the trip.

Wow. I will never be able to put my stay at the Carmel Valley Ranch in words. My family and I booked this trip the day before we left on an impulse, and were expecting it to be beautiful, but it was way more than that. Dane, the man who brought our luggage in, was extremely funny and kind, and would greet us every time he saw us around. That goes for the whole staff, because each and every person working there made sure our trip was perfect. They helped us with everything, talked to us as if we were close friends, and just made us feel welcome. I don't feel as if I need to describe the scenery of the Ranch, since it looks the same as the photos on the website. A beautiful mix of contemporary and rustic, with swings on every tree for the nostalgic, an infinite pool and jacuzzi, wildlife roaming the grounds such as deer and turkey, and organic gardens which they grow their own vegetables on. If you stay here, which you must, make sure to meet Dan the general manager. Dan was the friendliest person we met on the trip, and we still keep in touch. When we told Dan we wished we could have booked another night, he gladly found a room for us and let us stayed another night and the magnificent resort. Lastly, make sure you book through a Saturday so you can enjoy the Bee Experience, one of our many favorite parts of the trip. So in conclusion, this trip was anything but ordinary. We are waiting for a vacation to come up so we can visit the beautiful Ranch again! If you are looking to stay in the Carmel area, this is the only place you can consider for luxury, friendliness, and the experience of a lifetime! By the way, this comes from a Sophomore girl in high school, and it takes a lot to impress us teenagers!

Room Tip: All rooms are decorated the same, except for a few which are more expensive with more space. But if...

Stayed here for a few days while traveling on the left coast. Got an amazing villa on the golf course with a private hot tub which was a welcome addition and a much needed relaxing spot. The staff was courtesy and the grounds were beautiful. I didn't know what to expect before I stayed there but now I know what the Ranch is all about. Would definitely return here in the future, found it to be well worth the money and one of the highlights of the trip.

Room Tip: Get a view overlooking the golf course - you can watch people as they play and see the wildlife roam...

The Pros... The Hotel facilities are pretty good, comfortable and clean. The decor is good. The landscape is beautiful and the property well kept. The Hot pool works very well and has nice views. The food at the restaurant was a nice surprise. It was pretty good. All room rates include the tips so you don't have to drop cash here and there all the time. The nicest thing is that they accept pets (with a fee of course).

The cons were... for almost anything else you want to do in the property you will need to pay extra (Tennis, sauna, golf, etc...). The service at the restaurant was poor. One day food took more than 45 minutes to be delivered and when it was delivered it was not what we ordered. When they brought what we ordered the food was a little sloppy on the prep side. There was no bar service at the pool on winter, which for us was a bummer. A place like that with no pool service is losing a lot of money because the hot pool can be used in the winter. I saw several guests bringing their own drinks, which was pretty pathetic for what they charge for the room rates.

Anyway, this is not any Four Seasons although prices are almost there. At Four Seasons you get for what you pay for, every dime and more. At Carmel Valley Ranch, I don't think you get for what you pay. The irony here is that, I would definitely come back because they accept pets, the resort is OK and it didn't feel like a completely rip-off. They probably have a clientele because of the Pets... :-)

Room Tip: Get a room close to the pool/lobby otherwise you might have to drive for pool activities and restaur...

This resort is beautiful! Huge property with dear grazing free, very picturesque. The suite was amazing and worth the price. One problem my husband I often have when traveling is an uncomfortable bed. At home we have a tempurpedic so usually the beds in hotels are very inferior. Im not sure what kind of mattress they had but it was comfortable! The staff was VERY friendly and accommodating. We had dinner at the restaurant the first night. It was very good but also very expensive. We ordered room service in the morning, continental breakfast for 2. Well the first problem was that it was over $50! The second was that the order was incorrect. I called and they quickly corrected it but they would have had to feed the fruit to me by hand to make it worth $50. That day in our travels we stopped at a grocery store and bought dinner and breakfast for the next morning. I highly recommend doing that or leaving the site for meals. The soap/shampoo etc was amazing! I wanted to purchase some in the gift shop but again it was way overpriced. I did treat myself to two bars of soap for $15 but the rest was just way out of line price wise. Again the suite and property were amazing I would go back (with my own food) in a second.

On our first visit to this beautiful property, we brought our puppy for his first hotel experience. The staff could not have been more friendly toward us and our pet ... they had special amenities for him in our room, the restaurant arranged an out-of-the-way spot for us to have breakfast, he was able to visit with the "house dog" who is station in the lobby. I have to say that every staff member we met was excited and friendly and wanted to talk to us about the puppy, it was quite a love-fest! We will definitely visit this beautiful hotel again.

The only recommendation I would have for the hotel would be to upgrade their in-room movie selection, to either one of the "on-TV" services or purchase a better selection of DVDs.

This place is unbelievable. Everywhere is a photo op for Paradise. Great staff, excellent service, spacious & luxurious accomodations, no expense spared here! But not stuff, you always feel welcomed like family here.

Room Tip: Bluff Suite was NEW! 324 overlooked parking lot, but the whole place is amazing!
