“Great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

We have stayed here a few times, all seasons as a jumping off point for Big Sur. Great service, the front desk staff is always super attentive, good beds and bedding and clean rooms. For the price it is the best value in Carmel.

Excellent facilities, decor, bed, bath,TV, Internet, pool, service ... great value too. Nicely landscaped. Odd location behind gas station should not deter you staying at this really nice hotel. Location has many positives too ... near quaint shopping centers with variety of restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops, a supermarket and a CVS. Also near bike and jogging path. Towns of Carmel and Monterey and coast sites are very short drives away. Kids will love Monterey Aquarium.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have balconies. Lower floor rooms have direct access to exterior. Middle floor rooms...

We stayed here for 2 nights over Labor Day Weekend and expected more for almost $300 a night. Our room was on the ground floor and had a STRONG smell of deodorizer which I knew would make sleeping very uncomfortable and trigger my son's asthma as well as mine. The front desk said they were all booked and I should open the window. sigh. So as I expected, we both wheezed and coughed even though I ran the fan all night. Just be aware if you are triggered by strong smells, ask for a higher floor.

On our west trek 2013 we had nothing booked in advance so as we got closer to Carmel we started calling around. Found space here, checked TA and thought why not!! Ok - driving in past the gas station i a bit odd but once past there, all is good. Much better than expected. Friendly staff, large room, comfortable beds...walls a bit thin as we could tell from the rather exuberant couple a few doors down...fridge, coffee maker etc. A short drive into town for meals and exploring. All in all a good location. Family friendly, pool very busy, restaurant becomes a "night club" in the evening - we didn't go but everybody there seemed to be having fun.

A decent location at a decent price for the area.

This was our second stay here. Thanks to TripAdvisor we got the breakfast buffet and afternoon cocktail included, for an even better value. We go to Carmel every July and this is a great location right off Hwy 1, and probably the best value we've found here.

Room Tip: First floor and fourth floor rooms have balconies for additional space.

I have been going to Carmel for about 30 years. In the past I have mostly stayed at B&Bs located within the streets of Carmel. Some have been excellent and more than a few have forgotten why they were rated so high in the past. More than 25 years ago I stayed at what was then a Holiday Inn as every B&B was totally booked. At that time it was a typical Holiday Inn. About ten years ago I went to Carmel and found that most older accommodations were booked. Almost drove out of town and remembered the location of that old Holiday Inn and went there. What a refreshing change. It's not a Holiday Inn any more. It's a real gem just on the border outside of Carmel. The pancakes were fabulous, light and fluffy and they had blueberries in them. I have to admit to an addiction to blueberry pancakes, especially the way I make them with yeast and then they rise, all light and fluffy. We were staying in San Francisco and decided to try the Carmel Mission Inn again because we wanted to visit the Los Lobos Preserve. We were still happy to make that choice as it is very close to Los Lobos and we will stay there again when we go up again to image some places along Highway One. For breakfast we again ordered blueberry pancakes and Terri in the dining room made our breakfast quite enjoyable and we felt very welcome. We highly recommend the Carmel Mission Inn and will stay there again when we go back up finish our imaging of the Bixby Bridge and few more spots in Los Lobos Preserve,

Room Tip: Choose a room not facing the highway, although most already do

A friend and I just stayed here for 5 nights August 23-27th - and were really pleasantly surprised. The price was very reasonable, the staff were really helpful - really nice, the room we had - on the ground floor was clean and comfortable and the decor was excellent. We arrived early so this room was offered us so we agreed - it was fine - very quiet. The pool was fine and the hot tub too. Also live music. You can walk into Carmel in about 20 minutes - we did not have a car so used local buses which were across the road near Starbucks.
The buses are hourly - the 24 goes to Monterey and Carmel. You can also get the 24 to Carmel valley and do some wine tasting. We got the number 22 to Big Sur - which was just amazing. We got the first bus in the morning and the last one back and were on the bus each way for about an hour - scenery just stunning and the bus driver stopped for us to take pics. We went to Nepente restaurant/shop/cafe - not to be missed. The hotel also offers a happy hour which we went to once - only had one drink but the food - was good a selection of hot and cold which was complimentary and well worth a try once - excellent value. This is a really good base and also very handy for both Carmel and Monterey. I would stay there again and highly recommend.

Room Tip: We were fine on the ground floor - very quiet - but other rooms had balconies so depends what you wa...
