“Long week-end in Carmel Mission Inn ideal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

A friend and I just stayed here for 5 nights August 23-27th - and were really pleasantly surprised. The price was very reasonable, the staff were really helpful - really nice, the room we had - on the ground floor was clean and comfortable and the decor was excellent. We arrived early so this room was offered us so we agreed - it was fine - very quiet. The pool was fine and the hot tub too. Also live music. You can walk into Carmel in about 20 minutes - we did not have a car so used local buses which were across the road near Starbucks.
The buses are hourly - the 24 goes to Monterey and Carmel. You can also get the 24 to Carmel valley and do some wine tasting. We got the number 22 to Big Sur - which was just amazing. We got the first bus in the morning and the last one back and were on the bus each way for about an hour - scenery just stunning and the bus driver stopped for us to take pics. We went to Nepente restaurant/shop/cafe - not to be missed. The hotel also offers a happy hour which we went to once - only had one drink but the food - was good a selection of hot and cold which was complimentary and well worth a try once - excellent value. This is a really good base and also very handy for both Carmel and Monterey. I would stay there again and highly recommend.

Room Tip: We were fine on the ground floor - very quiet - but other rooms had balconies so depends what you wa...

I coldnt find a hotel in Carmel, so was about to drive out of town, when I noticed this one. At first I though, oh no, not another road side inn, but I was pleasantly surprised about the excellent service, quality of rooms and overall luxury. Very comfortable in deed.

Room Tip: I chose a room away from the main function rooms, but I dont think there is any problem with noise a...

Stayed here for 2 nights in early June as part of a 3 week trip around California. Had booked directly and had asked for a top floor room with balcony. On arrival, we were told that the only room was a second floor without balcony overlooking car park The lady (Rana) at reception was very apologetic and did everything she could to improve on this first 'offer'. She showed us another room which was better and promised to find us a balcony room for our second night. True to her word, she did and a lovely room it was. Rana also discounted our room rate and comped us 2 drinks on each of the nights. She could not have been more helpful and turned a disappointment into a minor hiccup. Well done Rana.
Our major gripe with the hotel was as much our fault as anyone elses. We naively assumed we would be able to walk into Carmel itself from the hotel. Not possible. It is too far and on fairly busy roads. Should have researched it more and had we done, I think we would have opted to stay in Carmel itself.

Room Tip: Rooms are very spacious. There are balcony rooms which are worth the extra if spending more that a n...

6th August 2013
As others have already said it did feel like an old Motel that has had a very expensive makeover.
However for us this was not a problem and added to the variety of our trip.
We were put on the second floor overlooking the car park but for one night we were not bothered however we could not find any lift access.
Plenty of shops & restaurants just over the road.
The "Happy Hour" food/drink deal was different but acceptable
Buffet breakfast included was more than adequate although we did have to queue.
Generally we found the hotel to be efficient, clean & comfortable

We stayed here last year and enjoyed it, but this year it was not a good. The receptionist processed our arrival efficiently but not with the expected sincerity. The room was ok. The corridors were a little grotty. The breakfast is buffet style and quite good but on our first day we had to wait about 20 mins in a line and then the staff were very busy which meant they struggled to give a friendly service. The restricted pool opening hours was very annoying as it is not open till 9am which is way too late when you've a busy day ahead and you enjoy doing lengths before breakfast, they will open the pool early if you ask.

Thank you for taking the time to review our Carmel California hotel. I’m sorry if we did not exceed your expectations in all areas. I agree waiting for breakfast can be a bit inconvenient. Many people like you take advantage of our bed and breakfast package. It is truly a great value but there are peak times in the morning when the crowds are huge. This can cause a bit of a wait and I’m sorry if this inconvenienced your day in any way. We truly appreciate your business and hope you will stay with us again. One of the best hotels we stated in during our west coast trip. The staff were all really helpful and our room was beautiful. The hotel bar was very spacious and the food was very good. Buffet breakfast was lovely and an excellent range of wine.
