“excellent large wheelchair accessible room with great wet room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2011

This was the third stop on our road trip up the California coast and was a welcome stop over with up to date, contemporary and well appointed wheelchair accessible room. Check-in was swift and the free Wi-Fi available which helped us plan even more things to do!
Bedroom was comfortable and quiet with coffee making facilities and a fridge. Bathroom/wetroom was spacious and elegantly decorated and easy for wheelchair to manoeuvre around.
Pool area was cramped but gated for security and safety. It did seem popular and was in constant use. Lounge area was comfortable and welcoming with big arm chairs. The food was nice, range and variety was quite good too and the night we ate there, a local blues band played in the bar and were pretty good.
The hotel issued us with breakfast vouchers to claim free breakfasts on both mornings we stayed there( not sure if this was a deal through trail finders who we booked through). The breakfast was buffet style with continental and cooked options and was good and replenished quickly and regularly. The waiting service was excellent.
The hotel is located about 10 mins drive from the centre of Carmel-by-sea and 20 mins to Monterey, again easy to access many main routes.

We stayed here for two nights as part of our trip to California booked for us by Trailfinders. On first impressions as other reviewers have said this looks like an off the highway motel. But it's much more than that. Check in was fast and the staff friendly. The whole hotel looked like it had been recently refurbished. We had a lovely large room that was spotlessly clean, fantastic big flat screen tv with a great choice of channels. The bathroom was fresh and clean. Breakfast was included in our package and the choice of hot and cold food was excellent. I would certainly recommend this hotel.

Stayed at the Carmel Mission Inn for 3 nights and was not very pleased. Room was small with paper thin walls. Decor is mediocre at best, staff was cordial but far from excellent. The hotel used to be a Best western and it shows. For the price I would stay somewhere else.

We stayed at the Mission Inn on our way from San Diego to Sonoma. We drove a bit each day, without hotel reservations made in advance. Thanks to (my new love) the iPad we booked a room wherever we found ourselves on that evening. Since hotel rates are pricey in this area and we arrived early evening we used a discount site to book sight unseen. Like another reviewer I exclaimed "oh no" when I saw the exterior, but was quickly and nicely surprised with the interior. And the exterior patio and pool are nice, the facade is just an older style. The room was very comfortable, with new furnishings, comfy bed, flat screen tv, nice bath products, robes, and it was clean. The staff was very nice. We were even "upgraded" to a king balcony room. We had dinner at the Mission Ranch Inn, a very short drive, past the actual Mission. What a great place for dinner. So if you're looking for a budget hotel, a few steps up from the usual chains, this is a great place.

This was the recommended hotel for a wedding we attended over the July 4th weekend, so we booked the room without doing much investigation into other options. As previous reviewers have said, we were a bit disappointed when we first arrived. After driving through the quaint center of Carmel, we were surprised to see our hotel located just off a busy highway near a gas station and grocery store. From the outside, it looks a bit worn down. However, once we went inside our concerns disappeared. Our room was very comfortable and newly decorated. It was quiet and very clean. You definitely need a car to get to the center of Carmel where most the restaurants and shopping are located, which could be inconvenient depending on your plans. However, if you are planning to also go to 17 Mile Drive or down to Big Sur, this hotel is ideally located for hopping onto the Cabrillo Highway. Overall, this place is a tremendous value. If you need a comfortable place to sleep in Carmel - and you're not interested in luxury or a fabulous view - this place will do well, and you'll have money left over for other things!

Room Tip: Request a top floor room with a balcony - the view isn't fabulous, but it's nice to have the...

My niece and I just stayed for two nights at the Carmel Mission Inn. There were a lot of negative reviews, and I was nervous about staying here.We were pleasantly surprised by how nice the property is. It is a very attractive place and is walking distance to two really nice shopping areas ~ yes, they are outdoor shopping malls, but not like strip malls at all. We really enjoyed the restaurants and the shopping in both areas. The hotel is I believe, an older property but it has been refurbished very attractively. The pool area is very nice, we enjoyed sitting outside by the fire pit in the evening (Carmel gets chilly at night!). It is a couple of miles, possibly a little more, to Carmel village, you definitely can't walk, which is the only negative about the location. Service was very good and we enjoyed ourselves very much. It was an economical choice in a pricy place that met our needs completely. If you are searching for a super romantic, charming place, I would look elsewhere ~ Carmel abounds with charm and romance, but you will pay for it. Overall, an absolute recommended hotel!

We drove south to Carmel after staying at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco and nearly choked when we saw our hotel nestled behind a Chevron station and amongst strip malls. Before touring the property I asked my husband if we could get a refund and find another hotel. However, we were very pleasantly surprised. The property, while small, was lovely. We enjoyed the other guests around the pool (being Americans we were in the minority as there were many Europeans staying there) and around the fire pit on the patio. We found the staff to be friendly and accomodating and the rooms to be large enough for my husband, 2 girls, and myself. My girls loved the pool which was thankfully heated to about 80-85 degrees. Another surprising thing is that we liked the location! I walked to the Safeway for muffins, fruit and juice in the mornings and spent about $10 on breakfast for 4 instead of the $35 I had spent at the Westin. We could also walk to restaurants for dinner or do carry out which was welcomed after a day of seeing the sights. The rooms were quiet (much quieter than in SF where we were on the 6th floor and heard street musicians late into the night) and fine.

Room Tip: Check in is very late. Call ahead for early check in if you will be arriving before 4PM.
