husband and i stayed here last night. manager very helpful and pleasant, room clean and nice remodeled bathroom. bed comfortable. fridge in room, and had a safe. simple breakfast, one or two pastries, bagels, few cereals and weak coffee. internet did not work well in room, and office had no internet access at all! always! location convenient. all in all, fine. lack of internet a pain though.

We stayed two nights June 2007. It was our first time in Carmel for a nearby golf tournament. This Hotel/Motor Inn surpassed out expectations . The rates were reasonable for what turned out to be a great room. We had an upper floor room as we were trying to get a view room and thought we'd end up having to haul our gear up 4 floors, but there is a nice parking lot around back for the upper floors as well as an elevator to get around. We could walk everywhere we needed to go in Carmel. We had room 47 which had a great corner balcony for afternoon breaks of wine and cheese which we bought at the nearby market/deli. The weather was perfect. If it had been cooler we would have enjoyed ourselves inside with our in-room fireplace. The breakfast room was very nicely decorated and clean. We had a great meal at an italian place in the Barnyard area across Hwy 1, as well as a great meal in the outdoor fireplace courtyard at the Hog's Breath. If you are planning on shopping in Carmel bring a lot of money. And beware that 17 mile drive costs $9..

  • Liked — The location, balcony view.
  • Disliked — The stairs were staggered - no one set of stairs seemed to go to all levels.

Stayed at the Bayview Best Western in March 2007 and had a fabulous room overlooking the ocean. The room was nicely appointed, the bathroom appeared to be recently renovated and after having shopped around it was the best value in Carmel. I will stay here again every time I visit.

we booked a last minute one night stay here while visiting the area. We got a great rate (~160), and were given a great room with a fireplace and a huge balcony. The beds were much more comfortable than any other best western I've stayed at. The bathroom was nice and clean, with a granite countertop. There was complementary wired internet access in each room. We also got great dinner and breakfast recommendations from the front desk.

If we visit Carmel again, we'll definitely stay here!

we had room by the pool. Pretty flowers all over. the bathroom was nice and bed fine. breakfast nothing special. I would recommend paying extra for room on high floor - it was very noisey where we were at street level.

We stayed with our two boys (8 and 5) over spring break in this hotel. We had a family suite with two separate rooms, two baths, two TVs, two balconies and awesome ocean views. The suite was bright and perfectly clean. Breakfast was complimentary and served in a nice breakfast room with lots of food choices. My kids loved the heated pool! The location is great for downtown exploring and shopping. There are two grocery stores right next to the hotel and the major shopping and restaurant area is just one block away (2 minutes by foot). The beach is approximately 10-15min by foot a little downhill. We loved our stay at the Carmel Bay View Inn and will come back for sure! Carmel is such a cute little town.

  • Liked — bright, sunny rooms with ocean views
  • Disliked — a few blocks closer to the beach would have been perfect

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2007

I have just returned from 3 nights at the Carmel Bay View Inn on a "girls weekend" with my mom. We decided to splurge a little by requesting a room with a view and a fireplace. We got room 47, just below the top floor. With mom's senior discount the room was $169/night (AAA discount as well, I believe).

The room was perfect and aside from wondering why the front desk guy hadn't given us the seemingly vacant room 59 (right above us with the same accommodations for the same room rate, but likely an even better view) we were thrilled! The king sized bed was great - the fireplace was SO nice, especially for chilly-nighted April. The one thing which amazed me however, was our incredibly generous balcony. It was beyond a balcony and included a sitting area with a table and chairs, plus 2 chaise lounges! It just kept going! This is not common, and appeared to be something special about room 47 (perhaps the front desk guy thought he was treating us afterall?) The view was wonderful - and sweeping - and more than 180º; likely 225º!

I was also impressed with the bathroom. It appeared to be very recently redone with glass shower doors, tile floors, granite counters, a hair dryer, drawers for your toiletries and even a window which opened from the bottom AND the top (for privacy).

We had a small, empty refrigerator which came in handy for dinner leftovers. My guess is that the fridges are only in the King sized rooms because the King sized rooms appear a bit larger and the fridge does take a bit of extra space.

There was no VCR/DVD player, but a TV with your typical cable channels: Fox, NBC, ABC, CNN, FoodTV... There was no WIFI internet in the room though a sign said it was free in the lobby. There was however, a broadband modem on one nightstand - ready to plug and play for free, if you brought your own ethernet cable or the lobby claimed to have rental cables also. This was great for me since I bring my laptop along on trips to look up directions, restaurants, things-to-do etc.

There was a coffee maker and cups in the room. Ice maker/soda machine was maybe 1 room away. They gave us two luggage racks for our suitcases. There were a couple of usable drawers in the TV armoire and nightstands and a closet (with full-length mirrored doors) containing maybe 6-8 hangers.

The only complaint we had was the lack of accessible electrical outlets in the room. One behind the bed and one behind the TV armoire; and both were being heavily used if you were able to get to them in the first place. I charged my camera battery in the bathroom.

The complimentary breakfast was also pleasant. Various muffins and pastries. OJ. Milk. Cereal (Cheerios, Rice Krispies and Raisin Bran). Bagels. Cream cheese and jam. Coffee and tea. Some fruit. There was a microwave and a toaster... but no toast (bread).

The hotel has a small grocery store right next door which is very convenient. But even more convenient is that the heart of charming and appealing downtown Carmel is basically across the street. The Best Western sits on one of the bordering streets of the heart of downtown. A 2.5 block walk brings you to Carmel Plaza. Hotel is a good distance from the beach and would not be a short walk (maybe more like 11 blocks).

Seemed to have plenty of parking. Too cool for the pool (and no time anyway). No spa/hot tub. There are definitely some rooms here with no view whatsoever. If you want a view - you'll need to specify.

For the record: Carmel, Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove and Monterey are really a skip and a jump away from each other. What a wonderful, beautiful area! I definitely recommend driving 17-Mile-Drive. If you dine at the Lodge at Pebble Beach (Stillwater Bar & Grill - AMAZING views) they give you your 17-Mile-Drive $9 entrance fee back!

I would definitely stay here again. Mom's already planning to bring Dad back!

PS: I tried to take a lot of "Candid traveler photos" since thus far there weren't any of the rooms.
