“Great location in Carmel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, the staff are very welcoming and helpful. The property is a bit odd to get into but that is the nature of this small pretty town. Staff were helpful in finding a location to park as it is very tight for space. The room was fine but lacking character which is normal for a chain hotel, it was clean and has the basics such as a fridge. The building is built into the side of a hill so, although our room was on an upper floor we had a view of a peaked roof. This summer I've stayed in 4 Best Westerns and found them to be quite reasonable, reliable and consistent. Bonus is that breakfast if often inculded in price

Room Tip: Request a higher room to get a town/water view

Hotel exterior needs maintenance. Very unpleasant continuous screeching from seagulls that apparently are nesting on or near the site and raise a racket 24 hours a day. Difficult to sleep uninterrupted by the birds' noise, and the hotel has only single-pane glass for windows and sliders. Location is good for walking in Carmel, and off-street parking is adequate. Full breakfast is fine, but the breakfast room can only accommodate about 20 people and there are 60 rooms in the notel.

Property needs some updating. Nice fireplace in the room and the bathroom is in good shape. Rest is pretty poor. Breakfast is a glorified continental served in a small room. It's processed food that is reheated. Felt like a "number" there, just another tourist.

The room was nice, no AC but didn't need as it was cool during our stay. Parking was tight but once we parked we stayed parked and walked to the shops (just a short way away) and also walked to the beach front. Pool was heated and our room was right next to it. Nice market next door that had anything you needed.

I have stayed there twice, for a total of 5 nights. Hotel is OK, not great. Location is fabulous, you can walk to the shops, restaurants and to the beach (about 3/4 mile away, beautiful walk). Our room was nice and so was the bathroom, but the hotel itself is not great.
Breakfast buffet very poor and servers were quite rude, yelling "Closing in 5 min" to let us know we should hurry up to get our coffee. We got a room on the 1st floor but we were lucky to be slightly elevated from the parking lot. Some rooms are right there a few feet away from cars parket on the lot. Parking is free which was a great change from San Francisco.
One of the best values in Carmel since it is one expensive beach town, but don't expect a great hotel. Clean room and good location was all that mattered to us and we got it, so not disappointed.

Not all the rooms have Bay Views, but if you spend the extra it's totally worth it. It was a little foggy when we were there (July) but still had an excellent view. The room is very nice. The bathroom a little small but otherwise good. Nice balcony & fireplace (alth we didn't need it in July). And best....just one block off Ocean Ave (the main street) so you can walk everywhere. Excellent restaurants within 1-4 blocks. Since parking in Carmel is difficult, it was great to leave car at hotel and walk to everything. Breakfast was good, lots of options considering the usual Best Western.

Room Tip: Bay views are on top floor, look into the cost....worth the extra and still less $ than other posh C...

We were very happy with the size, decor, furnishings, location of this hotel. Very charming. We enjoyed the nearby restaurants, shopping, beach, all within walking distance. The pool was also enjoyable. The room was tastefully decorated and comfortable, with a cozy fireplace and a very nice bathroom. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We would not hesitate to stay there again!
