“Decent place in Carmel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2011

Rates in Carmel-by-the-sea are kinda high, and this BW property is one of the "nice "price" places around. The location is good, nearby the village shopping center.

Breakfast was the continental thing your are used to from BW, plastic cups and plates. Limiteid selection of breads and spreads, cereals etc. More than OK for a day or two.

We had a large, and clean room - no complaints. However, the seaside location means that it may smell/feel a bit funny, semi moist/mouldy.

Free WiFi is nice, and working well from our room.

All in all - an OK place to stay for the weekend. You probably find better places, but probably not at this rate? I would not discourage friends to stay here, although not warmly recommend it either.

We enjoyed our stay at the Carmel Bay View Inn in September 2011:
Perfect location very close (in walking distance) to everything, very friendly staff, free computer in the lobby, breakfast in a nice room and last, but not least:
Our large, clean room (No. 58) with a fireplace and beautiful bathroom. This room is a corner unit and offers a breathtaking ocean view from the top floor.
Parking for this floor is on Torres Street (backside of main building). An elevator makes this hotel very handicap-friendly. Swimming-Pool is heated.
The rates for this hotel are a good value.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor # 58 (best), 57, 56 and 55 may have the best ocean view. Top floor rooms have...

We recently travelled to Carmel by the sea with our 2 children of age 5 & 8 and can very much recommend this hotel. It has large rooms with comfortable beds and a nice bathroom with tub, an ocean view and a convenient breakfast with friendly staff. It's walking distance to everything so you can really just park the car and enjoy the best of Carmel within a few footsteps of the hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 4th floor which had direct access from street level. Very convenient and with ocean...

A basic, older Best Western with clean, quiet rooms and free parking with a great location - you can easily walk to anywhere in Carmel by the Sea, and at a reasonable price in this expensive town.

After a long day travelling from LA it was nice to book in and relax. The room was outstanding with a real gas fire in the corner of the lounge, two bathrooms, large lounge, kitchen and lovely en-suite bedroom and the biggest bed I have ever seen.
I have to say the reception experience when we were booking in was one of a dis-interested young man who did what he had too and no more than that. I have no complaints about that, but the welcome could have been better. We also asked if he could recommend a local restaurant to eat, by now it was 8.30ish, he did recommend one which is subject to another review.

The breakfast was a continental type which was taken in a small breakfast room with perhaps no more than a dozen tables which meant you would maybe share with strangers. Again, the staff were efficient, replenishing the food quickly and without fuss. What was lacking was an atmosphere of being welcome and it would have been nice for staff to greet you and at least acknowledge your presence. The breakfast was ok we got what we paid for.

Would we stay again, probably not.

Very disappointing in terms of value for one's dollar...Queen bed accomodations.

Rooms are small and have not been renovated in a very long time...exception is the bathroom which has been updated. The rooms (we had 2) had a musty odour and there was no ability to see the TV except from the bed. Furniture is very old and dated. The room did not feel clean.

Attitude at the front desk was not cordial and we were given the impression "we were lucky to stay there." Night light timers had not been re-set so was dangerous to walk down stairway in the evening. We made several requests to have this rectified and on our last day it was completed.

Very expensive for the value received...we will NOT return. This is not typical of other Best Western Accomodations we used in other cities.

Lyndon & Sharon Olson

Room Tip: The management told us all Queen bed rooms were the same....we recommend by-passing this facility...

Nice little motel in the heart of Carmel by the Sea. Room had a great little gas fireplace that warmed the room up on the cold evenings. Everything was clean and comfortable. The morning breakfast was just right for a quick muffen or toast and coffee.
