“I love this place!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

My wife and I went to Carmel for a few days to celebrate my birthday. We chose the Country Inn because of their dog friendly advertising. We were not disappointed. We had a late arrival time and they were waiting for us. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. Our room was much bigger than I expected and the bath has both a shower and a spa tub. The breakfast was very good with quiche, fruit, oatmeal, rolls and pastries, coffee and juice. They have a huge list of older and current releases of movie DVD's that you can watch free of charge in your room. The wifi is free and very fast (or at least faster than what I have at home). I had to laugh at the rating that says, "kids are not welcome." and at the risk of sounding mean, that was a plus for me. This will most certainly be our first choice when staying in the Carmel/Monterey area.

We had a wonderful time at CCI. Our King room was spacious and luxurious. The bath (ooh, that spa tub) was fabulous, and the bed was supercomfy. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful on ideas, suggestions, etc. The location is ideal, only a few blocks to almost every restaurant in downtown Carmel. Thanks and kudos to the owners and staff for making our visit so wonderful!

We stayed for one night with friends at Carmel Country Inn on 6th August towards the end of a long tour around CA we wish we could have stayed longer. The 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite was beautiful. It was spacious, well appointed, very comfortable, clean and quiet. Breakfast was plentiful with a great choice of pastries and breads, yoghurts, fresh fruit, juice etc. and thre were excellent afternoon snacks as well. Bowls and trays were provided for you to take snacks away to your suite or table outside which we did to accompany the champagne we had ordered and which was chilled ready in our room on check in. The Inn was well placed for walking into town or to the beach and the hotel provides a large folder with recommended places to eat, photos and their menus. If I could change one thing it would be to have air conditioning or a ceiling fan in the bedrooms as it was very warm! I note that some rooms do. Fans were provided in the lounge.

Yuck! We stayed in a dark, dank room. This hotel owner seems to love dogs and cats but clearly hates kids. Without our permission, they moved us to another room even though there were zero complaints about the kids, noise, etc. the owner then said she preferred it if we move to a new hotel vs staying there with kids. Unbelievable! Why not just ban kids altogether at the hotel instead of making it seem like kids 5+ and older are welcome and then ruining your guests 3 day vacation by playing mind games...

CarmelInnkeeper, Manager at Carmel Country Inn, responded to this review, August 7, 2012
We allow children in specific guest rooms only, due to the ambiance of the inn, the expectations of our guests, our reputation and a romantic, quiet Bed & Breakfast, and the size of our guest rooms. Our website and all printed collateral and confirmation information states we "strongly discourage children under the age of 6" We also ask that you inform us if you plan to bring children, or a pet for that matter. It is not legal to NOT allow children.

When booking on our website, as this guest did, you need to enter the total number of people you are accommodating in order to be able to book a guest room. Had this guest entered the number 4 instead of 2, then only our two bedroom suites would have shown to reserve, not one of our most sought after, romantic, Deluxe King Studios which clearly only accommodates 2 persons.

Although we were deceived, we had no choice but to honor this reservation with 2 adult and 2 children (small children, who were climbing on the patio railing) on Saturday night, as the entire town of Carmel-by-the-Sea was sold out on Saturday night. The guests were told they could not occupy the same room for the last 2 nights of their stay, as we had a CHILD FRIENDLY, Deluxe King Suite available (on the ground floor, large enough to accommodate 4 persons with out breaking firecode codes and insurance liabilities) So instead of staying in the dark, drab room, they checked out without penalty and went to another inn.

Stayed several nights last month. It was our second time here with our dog, and it will not be our last. The rooms are spacious, CLEAN, and charmingly decorated. Our room was generally very quiet , the bed was certainly comfortable and the bathroom was large with lots of places to set toiletries. They serve a buffet breakfast - yogurt, cereal, juices, fruit, bakery breads, and offer a quiche or similar item each morning.Peanut butter on the breakfast bar is real peanut butter - no added sugar or corn syrup! Excellent afternoon snacks as well. The staff are extremely personable and helpful. The Inn is walking distance to the beach and the downtown - couldn't be more convenient.I highly recommend this place.

We really enjoyed our two night stay at this very beautiful and quiet Inn located about three short blocks off Ocean drive. Our king suite room was very spacious and the bathroom was one of the biggest I have seen. The breakfast seemed to repeat itself, but the choices were plentiful and very tasty. The staff was helpful with suggestions and advice. They saved the day with a bag of ice on our departure. While we didn't have our dog with us, we did enjoy all the other guest's puppies. The only downside was the cost which is why the overall is only 4 out of 5. That being said, I would recommend the Carmel Country Inn for dog lovers and those visiting the Carmel/Monterrey area.

My husband, two daughters, and I stayed here for four nights at the end of June and had a wonderful stay! We were in room 8, a two bedroom/two bathroom suite at the end on the second floor. The room was spacious, comfortable, and very clean. The breakfast was delicious, as were the coffee, lemonade, cookies and snacks available throughout the day! It's a great location; just a few short blocks from Ocean Avenue with all the shops and restaurants but a nice distance off the main streets so that it was extremely quiet.
The Inn had a booklet of suggestions for restaurants, activities, and things to do in the room, but the staff in the main office were all very helpful and informative too. Everyone we met of the staff were friendly, helpful, and enjoyable to talk to. There was parking available in the lot, and we were able to keep our car there for a few more hours after we checked out and still had some last minute shopping to do.
I think this is a great choice for a family. Our children were warmly welcomed and very comfortable during our stay. Several people had pets with them, but we were never aware of them except maybe seeing them at breakfast or in the parking lot with their owners. I don't think you could go wrong choosing to stay at this very comfortable, peaceful inn.
