Four of us were visiting Carmel/Monterey for Auto Week in mid-August. We have all been to Carmel and environs many times and therefore have had meals at many of the area restaurants.
This was my husband and my third or fourth time eating at Cantinetta Luca. Our friends had never been before.
We had 8:00 dinner reservations and were taken promptly to a very nice booth at the midway point of the restaurant ... actually looking right into the open kitchen ... which turned out to be quite interesting as the Head Chef was a football player sized young man with a HUGE personality ... let's just say you wouldn't want to be one of his "underlings" ... he wasn't putting up with any shortfalls from his kitchen staff ... he was a real "pot flinger" ... as soon as he was done with one pasta dish "fling" with the used pan - and there had BETTER be another fresh clean one at his hand immediately!
However, aside from his ferocious personality he "flung" out some very good pasta dishes. Three of us had the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese ... very good and just the right amount.
Our server was pleasant and had a sense of humour. We had a nice bottle of red wine and I was pleased with the glassware we were given ... I HATE when restaurants give you cheap glassware to have your wine in ... I am one of those people who believes that wine actually tastes better in a nice glass (rightly or wrongly).
Each couple shared a tiramisu for dessert ... which was served differently in a deep cup ... very good.
We will go back.
