“Quaint, convenient, and affordable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013 via mobile

We stayed in one of the "rustic" rooms in the rear building for three nights. One queen bed, fireplace, little kitchen. We loved it! Very convenient to town but quieter because it is on a side street. There is a little grocer a block away if you need to pick something up. I liked the old- fashioned feel of the room. Reminded me of a cabin in the mountains! Anyway, I'm not super picky about decor, as long as things are clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. We spent the money we saved on more fun things. Parking wasn't a problem at all, and we were there during the Marathon weekend. We'll be back!

Didnt have a reservation when we came upon this one, it was mid week and they were pretty vacant, so they offered us 95 bucks a night, which is hard to turn down, I think they normally go around 165. It's nestled in a neighborhood just about a five min walk to the main drag of shops and eateries. So there is just street parking in the neighborhood but it felt safe enough. The rooms felt spacious and were clean, the bed was nothing to write home about. The Inn is not staffed 24x7, they lock up the front door around 730, you have access still. The breakfast is served at their Main property at The Mission Ranch, which is just a basic continental breakfast, nothing special. The ranch is about 5 to 10 min drive. My only gripe was the lobby and hallways felt like 90 degrees which had to have an effect on the rooms because the room was 77. If not familiar with this area most places do not have AC. The small ceiling fan and windows opened could not bring the temp down, I'm guessing with the heat on the rest of the building is why? For some people 77 is on the warm side to sleep in. Also I did not see any other people at the Inn, it was so quiet and when they locked up at night, it felt a little surreal. Overall at the discounted price, it was worth it. I would not pay full price here tho. Kinda sucks that you have to drive to get breakfast.

Great place for an overnight stay at the Hotel. Nothing much to write about this place besides just that is it walking distance from the city center!! The City center is beautiful and is great place to walk. However there are a lot of hotels between the City center and the Homestead, but If you have the budget constraints....this is the place you should be looking at.

Room Tip: Avoid Road Facing rooms !!

Local resident Clint eastwood bought The Homestead in 2000 as a "sister property" to his always booked Mission inn. The Homestead is a series of smaller buildings in th town of Carmel. The rooms are scattered in these buildings. It is a great location to get to anyplace in town, and part of the layout of Carmel is "walking friendly". There are tie-ins to activities at the Mission inn, like tennis and priority listing for the restaurant at that property. From this Inn, you can walk to anything, golf excluded. I don;t golf so i could care less. I do like to walk the town filled with great shops and art galleries. I would call it "rustic" and so do the Innkeepers - who are great on the phone [the only way to book a room is to call] and even more helpful when you check in. We had a room with a kitchen, bath, a queen bed and twin bed, as well as a private porch! We only stayed one night on our way to SF, but wished we could have stayed longer. The rates can not be beat. If you want a high-end Hyatt-like experience with turn down service and $20/nt parking, go someplace else. Parking out front is easier and free. If you want a nice, quiet, well kept room on a historic site, this is it. We stayed in Noveber. Summer would be great here - especiallly with that porch for late afternoon wine.

We recently vacationed in CA traveling from San Francisco to LA on the Pacific Coast Highway. We had no reservations by choice and called the Mission Ranch Hotel for a room around mid-afternoon. They didn't have a room but the very helpful staff at the Mission Ranch Hotel informed us that they had another property in Carmel closer to downtown called the Homestead Inn which had availability and was running an introductory offer. They transferred me to the Homestead Inn and I booked our room for the evening. We arrived shortly after 5:00 PM. Our reservation was waiting for us and we were off to our 3rd floor room for $95.00! When we saw the nicely remodeled room we almost fainted! Our 3rd floor room was way more that we had expected. Mission style furniture with everything you would ask for at a 5 star hotel! We liked the town of Carmel and the Inn so well we stay an additional night!

Note: Not all of the rooms at the Homestead Inn have been remodeled. The next morning I asked the hotel desk to book another night. They had rooms but the room we were in was book already so we had to move to another room outside the main house. We were informed that the rooms outside the main house had not been remodeled. The room was very clean but very dated so plan accordingly. I would certainly stay in any room at the Homestead Inn but I would also request one of the remodeled room if it were available. A great value either way!

Room Tip: Choose a 3rd floor room if you don't mind the stairs! Great view and quite!

A great location as an easy walk to everything in Carmel. Very clean, very lovely, nice plantings. First class linens, a fireplace, and free breakfast at that famous Rancho place included. Entirely satisfied.

The location is fantastic. It is easy walking distance to the shops and restaurants in Carmel. Our room was big, very nicely furnished, and had a very comfortable bed. The bathroom had a nice glass shower and was spotless! The toiletries were a very nice touch.
