Local resident Clint eastwood bought The Homestead in 2000 as a "sister property" to his always booked Mission inn. The Homestead is a series of smaller buildings in th town of Carmel. The rooms are scattered in these buildings. It is a great location to get to anyplace in town, and part of the layout of Carmel is "walking friendly". There are tie-ins to activities at the Mission inn, like tennis and priority listing for the restaurant at that property. From this Inn, you can walk to anything, golf excluded. I don;t golf so i could care less. I do like to walk the town filled with great shops and art galleries. I would call it "rustic" and so do the Innkeepers - who are great on the phone [the only way to book a room is to call] and even more helpful when you check in. We had a room with a kitchen, bath, a queen bed and twin bed, as well as a private porch! We only stayed one night on our way to SF, but wished we could have stayed longer. The rates can not be beat. If you want a high-end Hyatt-like experience with turn down service and $20/nt parking, go someplace else. Parking out front is easier and free. If you want a nice, quiet, well kept room on a historic site, this is it. We stayed in Noveber. Summer would be great here - especiallly with that porch for late afternoon wine.
