we planned to stay here for one night on our way through to San Fransico. we ended up staying three and again on out way back to LA. the service was top notch. so friendly and helpful the staff helped us on our journey giving us ideas of where to go and what to do. they were amazing and so helpful. the rooms to clean and with complementary brandy, it made it a cute romantic place to stay and enjoy. if you are ever passing through this smally sea side town i fully recommend you take the time to stop here for the night and enjoy the comfort and hospitality that the Lamp Lighter Inn offers. will definitely return the next time we are in California.

Arriving late in Carmel we discovered this lovely place after a sunset walk on the beach. We had no reservations but were warmly greeted and offered the last room that was available. We were even given a tour of the room which we loved immediately and said "yes", the room decor, ambience, view and bath room and fireplace was quite a surprise. It was pure bliss - everything in the room was perfect including nice touches like wood for the fireplace. The room had the feeling of a cottage, farm house or luxury B&B. I highly recommend this place for couples on a romantic getaway - the bed was beautiful and bedding was luxurious. The location is also amazing within minutes walking both from the beach and tomany fine restaurants and boutique stores in the center of this wonderful seaside town.

I had the opportunity to stay at the Lamp Lighter Inn last month and it was truly a great experience. It is located in a great spot near the bottom of the main drag of Carmel, and it felt very private and intimate. Hopefully I will have another opportunity to stay there.

We found this place by accident having been recommended the venue whilst stopping off in Monterry on the way down the coast. We accepted a room at $99 for the night and were treated to romantic little huts with a very comfy bed and tv with cable. Our room also came with a bottle of champagne however I am not sure if this is standard or not as well as complimentary sherry! In the morning we received a knock on the door to be given a breakfast basket complete with newspaper so could enjoy brekfast in bed.

It is a perfect location for staying in Carmel as it is half way between the main shops/restaurants and the beach so nothing is too far to walk. The shops and restaurants are all little individual shops rather than chains which seems to be the case everywhere else in the states.

Overall, a stay in Carmel is well recommended and where possible a stay here is a must!

We loved the Lamp Lighter Inn! As we pulled up to the property we immediately began to smile because not only were the cottages extremely charming...think Hansel and Gretel and you've got the picture...but the entire property gave evidence of loving care. It's always good when the first impression makes you excited to see more and as we walked to the office along the meandering path surrounded by beautiful flowers we couldn't wait to see our room.

We stayed in the Katydid room, which is the smallest room they offer. It was charming! The Queen size bed was very comfortable and the room had all the amenities we could want...a medium size cafe table with two chairs and set with complimentary sherry, a microwave and coffee maker with a small refrigerator in the cabinet underneath, swing-arm reading lamps on each side of the bed, a flat screened TV and a small closet that supplied two robes to use along with space to hang our things. We set up the luggage rack under the window for the large suitcase and had plenty of room to walk between it and the bed. We opened the windows and could hear the ocean! The bedroom has cathedral ceilings, so the feeling is open and airy despite it being smaller than a typical hotel room.

The bathroom is small but again supplied all that is needed; a hair dryer, tissue, natural shampoo, conditioner and lotion along with soft towels and a swing-arm makeup mirror over the pedestal sink and a walk-in shower. I would guess that the shower might concern someone who suffers with claustrophobia, but for us it was fine. Since there is only room for one person to be in the bathroom at a time, it helped tremendously that the other person could finish getting ready in the bedroom using either the full-length mirror or the large mirror over the cafe table.

Each morning a basket is delivered to the room at the requested time that contains hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, muffins, orange juice and a newspaper. We either made coffee and tea in our room or walked next door to "the den" where coffee was available along with hot water for our choice from a basket offering tea, hot chocolate or spiced cider. Fresh fruit was also available here. The den is open most if not all of the time for these items and also supplies a sitting area and books that can be borrowed.

Some mornings we took our breakfast basket outside to one of the tables set up among the garden beds. There are several sitting areas outside that are very pleasant. The music played throughout the area added nicely to the beautiful surroundings.

The town of Carmel is filled with wonderful shops and great restaurants just steps away from the inn heading uphill and the beach is a short walk downhill, so the location of the inn was ideal for us. Everyone was friendly and helpful throughout our stay, giving us great recommendations, directions and help whether you were speaking to the owner, Bobby, or any one of his team members including even the gardeners! It seems a very happy place to work. Our room was very clean and comfortable and the setting was like being in a fairy tale. We had a chance to peek in on some of the other rooms and they offer more space and some even have fireplaces, so I'm there seems to be something for everyone. On top of all this, the property is pet-friendly. Though we couldn't take advantage of this since we'd flown into San Francisco without pets, we enjoyed giving attention to a very affectionate cat named Shadow that lives down the street but seems to know that the people who work or stay at the inn are always ready to give her some attention. By the way, Carmel itself seems to be one of the most dog-friendly towns I've ever been to, so dog lovers will enjoy the multitude of dogs seen on its streets or along the beaches.

In summary, our stay at the Lamp Lighter Inn was fantastic. We whole-heartedly recommend it and hope we can stay there again very soon!

We loved this place. We can't say enough good things about it. Bobby, the manager/owner, was wonderful. He gave us good information and suggestions for things to do and places to go. We stayed in the Hansel and Gretel cottage with a great fireplace and super comfortable bed. Our dog loved it too. He was treated like the part of our family that he is and we only had to walk 1 1/2 blocks to get to the beach which was his favorite place on the whole trip. We will defintely go back
