“Checked the Box”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Had a number of friends who, when they found out that we were going to be in the area, said that the 17 mile drive was a "must see." So, we did. Found it to be nice, and we especially liked the Pebble Beach clubhouse view of the 18th fairway, but in retrospect, the $10 drive was nowhere near as appealing our subsequent drive down the Pacific coast to Carmel, past Big Sur, etc., which was free, to boot.

“WOW!”

Worth the 10.00 bucks! So, go ahead and spend the money for million dollar views. You will not regret it especially when the sun is shining.

“Worth it if you...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

Felt this was a bit overrated.

The first half is a windy road through a wooded residential area, it's the second half that is pretty along the coast and there is a stop with a little rock island full of seals.

One thing they don't tell you is that if you spend over $30 in one of the restaurants you can submit your $9.75 entrance fee receipt and it will be deducted from your bill. I recommend stopping for a bite at "The Bench", not too pricey, a beautiful restaurant with a stunning view. Outdoor patio with fireplaces, gorgeous. "The Bench" is in "The Lodge" building. The Lodge lounge is also gorgeous for a drink.

“Beautiful but overrated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

The 17-mile drive is one of the must sees on the Monterey peninsula, so as most tourists we decided to pay the access fee and take the drive.

Views of the coastline are certainly beautiful, but in all honesty you can get similar views all along the coastline, on roads that do not charge entrance fees. Along the 17-mile drive you also get a peek at the golf courses and the houses surrounding them, which however didn't interest us too much.

As on the entire coast, you don't really see that much if fog from the Pacific covers up the coastline, so check the weather before doing the drive.

“Not to miss!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

Costs about $10 per car to drive this half hour through a beautiful scenic oceanside route. Lots of traffic our day. You might even want to bring a picnic lunch.
