We stayed at the hotel over the road and by the time we arrived in Carmel just wanted somewhere local that we could get to without having to drive again.
Rio Grande was just over the road and was really busy when we arrived at about 7pm. We were offered a wait of 30 mins or a table in the bar, so went for the bar and it was a lovely option. We were served drinks quickly, our order taken and starters had arrived all within 15/20 minutes of sitting down. Only real issue was we then had to wait for about another 20 mins for our mains to arrive and to be honest we were both so tired by this point that it kind of spoiled the meal a little. But he food was fresh and had lots of flavour, with the prices being very reasonable and a nice choice of beers and wine that were not the kind of crazy high prices we saw elsewhere. Plus our server was friendly and really nice, getting fresh drinks and settling the bill quickly, so all in all it was a nice meal.
I wouldn’t hunt this place out for a meal, but if you are getting into town and staying in the Carmel Mission Inn (just across the street) and would like something to eat that isn’t going to break the bank as well as be a place with a nice atmosphere, I’d say the Rio Grande is a good option.
