“The worst maid service I've ever experienced.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago NEW

The bathroom was never cleaned during our 4 -nights stay; just tidies up a bit. We had to go looking for maids to ask for toiletries, including toilet paper. The breakfast was very limited, and we haven't been able to taste the much-advertised waffles even once: first, they ran out of batter, then the machine broke down and was taken away. Terrible value for the high price.

We went to Carmel for four nights to attend a members' wine club party and had a lovely room at the Wayfarer Inn which was perfectly located in the heart of town where we could walk easily to everything we wanted to do in Carmel, including all the good restaurants. The staff was efficient and friendly - good innkeepers!

There's something particularly poignant about walking through a neighbourhood where the poor people have 2 year old Ferraris back to your hotel which looks neat from the outside (presumably Carmel's laws dictate that) and back to your hotel room which looks like a truck stop flophouse.

As it's a fancy neighbourhood you'll be paying fancy prices, but don't expect any fancy stuff like pictures on the wall, comfortable beds or soap you can find without recourse to a scanning electron microscope.

While the rooms were roomy enough, and the layout was decent, one would expect it to be a charming place. Instead it is being run like a cheap motel. From the bedding to the tiny piece of soap to the lame breakfast. When one pays $200 which is pretty pricey, one expects some decent amenities. Sure this is in Carmel one of the more upscale vacation spots, it ruins the experience coming back to a cheaply run place. What is more degrading are the signs everywhere to buss your table. Something even McDonald's doesn't have. The management should ask themselves if this feels welcome to the guests or if they are running it for their own convenience. The husband and wife owners were least bit interested in the guests, he in check outs and she in refilling coffee. This place is a nice property and can easily be converted to a charming destination, should the owners figure out how to.

The evening hostess/staff member was more in tune to what an inn should be like, was warm and very informative. Other than this bright spot, there was little else. I would not recommend it unless you have no other choice.

We stayed one night and thankfully that was all. We waited in the lobby for a good 10 minutes before anyone came to attend to us. The receptionist was short with me when I was checking in and gave what felt like a lecture with rules (parking, breakfast etc) than a friendly overview of the inn.

The room was awful. I had booked a family suite which was shown as a king and two singles but the two singles were actually a pull out bed and pulling out the trundle would have made it impossible to get to the bathroom without stepping over the bed.

The room had cobwebs, not fresh but the old haunted house full of dust kind. When we switched on the ceiling light the glass bowl was full of dead flies. The bedside tables had ring marks and were chipped and the bedside lights had shaky shades and 20 watt bulbs. Honestly I thought it had been furnished from a thrift store. The bathroom was positively vintage in every way with the thinnest prison issue towels and a paltry selection of toiletries, of no known brand.

Breakfast was meager at best with the bare minimum of food available. Four slices of bread, one bagel, four mini muffins, empty coffee pot, two English breakfast tea bags and a bowl of cheap margarine - not even butter. There was even a sign asking us to clear our own tables and take the dishes through to the kitchen and it was only then I noticed hard boiled eggs hiding there presumably to deter guests from eating them. The napkins were folded sheets of kitchen roll.

Carmel is beautiful the inn is not.

..and the pillows were worse, if possible. Beds were rock hard, room was very well-used-you might call it shabby. It was, however, fairly clean. Breakfast was about as bad as I've ever had in an "inn" and consisted of one waffle iron (for the 10-15 rooms) for waffles, some sort of bread, tasteless Cheerio-type cereal, and you had to ask for hot cocoa (did they think we were going to steal it perhaps?). Farther than expected from downtown, but street parking worked well. Would try somewhere else next time.

Me and my wife stayed here for one night, so it was the worst place ever!
- Old... no, very old furniture, holes on plankets and pillows. Smell. Dirty bed, dirty windows, dirty toilet.
Breakfast... wafels... ohh..and few props of maple syrop.... thats it.. (you need to help yourself make a waffle... so you can get here some cooking expirience =) )

Only location was good....
So it looks more like indian hostel than a hotel.
Dont stay here!

Room Tip: Ask for clean room! Or better run from there to normal hotel!
