“Really bad! Dirty rooms, everything”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

Me and my wife stayed here for one night, so it was the worst place ever!
- Old... no, very old furniture, holes on plankets and pillows. Smell. Dirty bed, dirty windows, dirty toilet.
Breakfast... wafels... ohh..and few props of maple syrop.... thats it.. (you need to help yourself make a waffle... so you can get here some cooking expirience =) )

Only location was good....
So it looks more like indian hostel than a hotel.
Dont stay here!

Room Tip: Ask for clean room! Or better run from there to normal hotel!

We stayed here for one night, We had booked our room that morning for the same evening as we were driving through California from San Francisco.

Upon arrival the lady that checked us inn have us a map of Carmel & also tips of good places to eat and go to see. She also told us to walk to the beach for sunset as it was an unbelievable view. Which we took this advice & it made our experience of Carmel it was beautiful. Location was brilliant.

Our room was huge, we had a double bed as you walked in with a fire & a bathroom. Then double doors through to another bedroom and bathroom. Enough room for 4 adults.

Excellent value for money, we got a brilliant price. Fresh waffles for breakfast and free wine tasting in the evening which was fab.

We would definitely recommend this hotel.

(We stayed here in may 2013 but I couldn't select that date from
Drop down).

I've reviewed this place before. We were back to Carmel after a couple of years and was able to book last minute at wayfarer inn. We enjoyed the stay as before, the owners are the same (very nice couple). This time we stayed in a first floor room which is adjacent to the street. It's not brand new for sure, but very roomy and in good shape (if you don't expect 5* luxury). My son loves the breakfast, specially the make your own pancake machine! It's a great place for a family trip.

I have been going to Carmel since the 70's. This is the worst experience I have had. The room is depressing, like you are in the slums. The owner, in a thick accent that sounded angry, told me what a good deal it was. The receptionist, when I checked in, told me they fill the hotel every night. My interpretation is, "if we can sell rooms and stiff people on the quality, that's more $ in our pocket that we don't have to spend on our customers". I hope these people sell it, they do not fit the Carmel vibe at all.

The only thing decent about this place is the pictures. They make this place look nice when in reality it is a dump that should be torn down! Peeling paint, mildew and mold in the bathroom! Old is too nice! TV out of the 80's, no fridge, no microwave, no coffee pot, no screens on the windows that opened up onto the patio or parking lot. When asked about the lack of amenities the desk clerk responded with we're not THAT type of place! The bedding looked so bad we brought our own blankets in and slept on top of the worn out blankets on the bed. Oh and be careful of things that crawl in the night! I got bitten by God knows what!!!! The continental breakfast was an even bigger joke than the room! This place does not need an update, it needs a wrecking ball! Do yourself a favor, drive back to Monterey and stay at a national chain. Oh I almost forgot , there is an additional $20 city fee per room on top of price and parking is on the street if 8 car parking lot is full and you have to move your car by 8am. Traveler beware!

The Wayfarer Inn has a terrific location plenty of potential to be a comfortable stay-but needs major updating.

1. The walls are in need of repair and fresh paint.

2. The furniture and bedding appears to be original and needs to be updated . It's not attractive-it's a simple upgrade. For example the set of drawers the tv is set on is missing a knob. And it is very low for the small tv that sits on it. The chairs in our room are stained and need to be reupholstered.

3. The carpet is stained and falling apart.

4. The shower is small and they put a curtain on it which closes it up more. A small shower with doors works much better.

5. The vanity doesn't have an accessible electrical plug.

6. The tiles around the fireplace are broken and could cut your foot.

7. The bathroom door swings open so far you have to find a spot in the small bathroom to stand in order to open/close door.

8. The moulding along the doorway is cracked and could cause splinters.

9. The breakfast is waffles and toast . Yogurt and fruit would be a welcome addition as bread is not nutritious.

10. The fireplace is a welcome addition as we cannot adjust the thermostat any other way-but it gets very hot and cannot be turned on low.

11. The electrical plug by the window is loose and won't charge anything.

We were not pleased with our room and do not plan to stay at the Wayfarer in the future not recommend it.

This B&B is quaint and tucked away off the main road (Beach Ave) and a short walk to shops, park, and beach. Includes breakfast, which is very simple (too simple) Belgian waffles, cereal, or oatmeal. There's some toast, butter and jam as well. Coffee is available and small sitting area is cute.

The rooms was cute. Had room 7 and the twin bed was in a separate room, but there's no door so not much privacy. The room is spacious and has dated furniture and decor. Fireplace in the room. No air conditioning, but a stand up fan. Television w a nice variety of channels and a big bathroom w a tub/shower. Windows in the bathroom open outward old English style and are opaque, but if you open them too far the residents on the balconies behind the building have a clear view ;) Only one trash in the whole room, which was in the bathroom. Comfy beds and plenty of outlets. Friendly staff.

The fridge and microwave are in the small kitchen located in the lobby. It's communal and only available to guests during lobby hours.

Old English style courtyard to enjoy the complimentary wine and crackers from 4-6p daily.
