“Really Two Buck Chuck!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2012

Yes these rooms are very reasonable during the week but unfortunately I felt that the inn proprietors were doing everything on the cheap from breakfast to the wine, from cleaning to basic maintenance. The towels are worse than Motel 6, our room was not clean in the corners and our bed linens were not changed. The wine they tell you its French however, I saw empty Charles Shaw wine bottles in the kitchen. Two Buck Chuck is fine.....just tell us it's Trader Joe's and don't be dishonest by trying to pass it off as French. (They save French wine bottles and pour the Trader Joe's into them) Our room did not have a smoke detector as it was found on top of the dresser. Half the electrical outlets did not work, I had to try my hair in the corner. The room are so noisy you can hear your neighbor in the next room and every step of the person upstairs. The breakfast is literally the cheapest bread you can find, not even stuff from Costco, worse than that. Watered down O.J., one bowl of butter, one bowl of jelly, waffles, oatmeal to make yourself and slices of banana that they monitored. They obviously don't believe in adding a bit of color to your plate. They advertise fresh baked goodies but for 5 days we saw nothing of the sort. We have stayed in several other affordable, dog friendly inns in Carmel that have been reasonably priced and we have been very pleased. This one was a huge disappointment.

We stayed one night in Wayfarer Inn. It's a small and affordable place, but in no way cheap! It has a certain charm, the room was very nice with wide windows and great view. The breakfast was nice and adequate. The location is great, walking distance to shops, restaurants and about 10 min walk to the beach. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were positively surprised. We will be back next time we're in Carmel.

We stayed in room no 4 on the ground floor. It had its own little kitchen which was nice but the whole place needs a little maintenance. All rooms are up some stairs so be aware if you have lots of luggage. The breakfast was fine, cereals, breads and waffles. Nice courtyard area for the free wine tasting.

First time in Carmel couldn't have been any more wonderful. The Wayfarer Inn was a cheap place to stay close to the shops, restaurants, and beauty of downtown Carmel, and a short walk from the beach. The staff was AMAZING!!! the man at the front desk was helpful to no end. Free wine from 4-6 on the daily. Room was very clean, and reasonably priced. $70-80 a night for a room with a beautiful view and a fireplace. Breakfast included with great waffles. This is the place to stay if you are in Carmel.

Although the staff at the Wayfarer is both accomodating and pleasant, they cannot make up for the many updates this hotel needs. There is a need for paint, decor, and the towels were the thinnest I have ever seen....ever! There are many hotels in Carmel needing renovating and the beauty and charm of the village cannot make up for the lack of quality accommodations.

Fantastic location, complimentary great tasting wine from 4-6, friendly staff, beautiful little garden quad with tables and chairs, about the most reasonable rates you'll find (use their website, $85 winter rates though around $200 summer) five minutes from downtown, most reasonable restaurant (actually a tavern) in Carmel with best clam chowder I've ever had 50 yards down the street. Four rooms have separate kitchens complete with stove, fridge, microwave, even dishes and knives, all rooms I believe have a fireplace. We have Room 1, end unit with private balcony and kitchen. Couldn't recommend this place more. Many rooms are really large. Rooms are clean. All are being upgraded.

I stayed in this quaint little piece of ocean-side heaven in January with my English partner, who assured me that this was the standard of bed and breakfasts in Britain. We had a great time, our room had a roaring fireplace and we watched movies on the tv and just curled up in the comfort of our extremely spacious, yet incredibly comfortable room.

The next morning we met in the dining room with the other guests for our complementary breakfast. Again, fireplace going and drizzle outside, we were cozy and happy inside. And our tummies were quite happy, too: coffee, tea, fresh squeezed oj and punch, waffles, english muffins, toast and muffins, fruit and yogurt and cereal and granola! You name it! What a great deal for the price of $89!!

We filled up on food and then took the opportunity to speak to the owners who were very kind. They informed us that other local Inns haven't been doing as well, business-wise, lately and have been attempting to sabotage their little Inn by posting inaccurate No Vacancy signs outside their doors and posting bad reviews on them online. Actually, for this review, there will, no doubt be three bad reviews following it. What a shame, this is the nicest place I've ever stayed in for less than 100 bucks in my life.

We'll definitely be back!
