“Very Continental”

Nice menu. Lots of seafood choices. I had the Coq Au Vin and it was delicious. Owner makes everyone feel welcome and is quite a people person.

“Warm and inviting atmosphere with great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013 via mobile

We went here for dinner after it was recommended by our hotel. I had the pork tenderloin, and my husband had the coq au vin. Both of our meals were good, but I wouldn't say excellent. The service was excellent! We enjoyed our romantic meal, but I might would try another food item.

“Great lunch menu, with daily specials.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

They were supportive with our choice to share the chicken Pita. The evening menu looked inviting. The out door patio seating, allowed for people watching, while dinning.

“Wows All Around!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

Kind of stumbled on to Portabella as we were walking down Ocean Avenue and remembered hearing good things about it. We sat on the patio surrounded by a nice rock wall and beautiful flowers. The service, food, and atmosphere were all fantastic. We started with the fresh goat cheese ravioli. I ordered the pork tenderloin special (served with potatoes and spinach) and my husband order the filet mignon with the vegetable terrine and potato galette. All of the food was absolutely fabulous and the potato galette is possibly one of the best items I have ever had period. Our waiter was very attentive, informative, and very friendly. He guided us through the menu and we were both very pleased with everything we ordered. We will definitely return to this restaurant next time we are in Carmel.

“Fell far below expectations”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

We stopped off in Carmel and Monterey which are lovely affluent areas with scores of hotels and restaurants . We passed the restaurant with a very fine looking gentleman eating outside in the sunshine in a suit and a fedora hat. He assured us that the food was excellent and that he was the owner . We booked a table for 8.30 pm and the ambience of the restaurant was nice the staff attentive but we ordered two signature dishes of pork and seafood . The starters of mushrooms on a bed of ciabatta and crab cakes were cold and almost tasteless. The main courses followed a similar pattern. We had driven all along the West Coast and to date this was by far the poorest and easily the most expensive meal . We eat out a lot and do not mind paying for good food but this meal was terrible.
There are scores of others in the area ask around and rely on hotel staff recommendations.
In short don't eat here.
