“Beautiful newly renovated property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

We recently stayed here after it had been recently renovated. Apparently it had been closed for 3.5 years and just reopened in March of this year. The newly renovated property is beautiful! Everything is new from the lobby, the grounds, to the rooms. The rooms themselves are modern, spacious, and beautiful. Loved the tall ceilings and the multiple indoor and outdoor sitting areas. Seemed like almost every room has some type of great view.

Due to the recent re-opening though, there were a few things that still needed some work.
- Only one restaurant onsite which is Edgar's over at the golf course club house. It was good, but service was slow and you basically had to drive there or take a long walk from where the rooms are.
- There is no drink or food service at the pool yet.
- Service: while everyone tried to be really nice, the front desk didn't seem to really know what they were doing. It was busy because there were many weddings checking in and out. However, they couldn't give me any type of time estimation of when I could check into my room which was rather annoying. In addition, many staff members would speak to each other in a different language in front of guests. From a hospitality point of view, I find this to be quite rude.

Anyhow, overall this is a beautiful newly renovated hotel that will likely do quite well. I think their service will gradually improve. I'll give them a pass since all the staff seems new and are still learning.

If I were in the area, I would probably stay again.

Room Tip: We had 205 which was great because it had a separate entrance and seemed quite private.

We stayed here for 3 nights in August and enjoyed a quiet and relaxing few days enjoying the valley golf and Carmel by the sea nearby.

Our room was a standalone cottage, facing the 14th green which was a real treat. We absolutely adored the views from our window and terrace area, where we could enjoy our coffee whilst checking out the morning flights on their back 9. We were relatively near the main road so next time I would request one away from the traffic noise.

The establishment was recently renovated and the rooms are very well appointed. We had the king bed (very comfy) and there was also a cozy desk by the bay window which doubled as our reading corner. Bathroom was spacious and brand new with a single sink but plenty of vanity space and also a separate walk in shower area. Toiletries were lovely spa treats with gorgeous scents!

We did not try the restaurants or breakfast so can't comment. We did play a round of golf at Quail golf. The fairways are wide and well maintained but nothing terribly exciting and I grew bored on the back 9. It is interesting how the residences around the estate are weaved into the golf course. Gotta be careful and watch for cars/houses! I distinctly recall a car driving past 150 yards ahead of one the white tee boxes. We were caught by surprise!

Overall, I loved the feel of the lodge and it is very fitting of a charming destination like Carmel.

I did not give a 5* rating because of the ambient noise from the nearby highway, and we found the front desk reception staff competent but service was hardly warm and welcoming.

Room Tip: Request for one away from the highway

Quail Lodge just reopened in the spring, and I had heard there had been major renovations. The location of this lodge is excellent, close to many other restaurants, wine tasting, and the gorgeous coast drive South to Big Sur. I knew there was only one restaurant, but did not realize there was no room service (reason for low points on that). The room charge was very reasonable for that area, and includes breakfast, but with very minimal offerings: oatmeal in a cup to add hot water, juice, coffee, etc., yogurt, toast, bagels with cream cheese, a bit of whole fresh fruit. We dined at the lodge restaurant, Edgar's, one night, and that was very good, though short walk outside in the dark to get there. I do like the fact that the grounds are lovely (golf course) and flat walks abound. Our room was good, with no particular view. This is a good value for the area near Carmel, especially if you are a golfer! We would go back, because the costs are reasonable, and the lodge is close to everything in Carmel, Carmel Valley and the Pacific Coast.

A few years ago, the owners of Quail Lodge were in dispute with workers, unions, etc and closed down to let everyone step away and regroup. The country club and magnificent golf course remained opened and the property itself was constantly maintained.
In June 2013 it reopened- all the rooms have been redone with new carpeting, new bedding-elegant and ready to roll. This resort is amazing- all on one level. The pool area is peaceful and the actual pool is huge. Just across the road there is an amazing breakfast place- The Wagon Wheel- a local and guest favorite serving great pancakes and waffles. The local Mexican place is also across the way with music during happy hour. If you have never been to Quail-treat yourself to a weekend. If you loved Qual Lodge in the past- it's back and it is wonderful.

The Quail Lodge reopened recently after being closed at least a couple of years for renovation. I stayed here a few years ago, and recall that it needed a facelift. I'm happy to report that the refurbished facilities are much improved and excellent. Our room was huge and well appointed. The service aspects needs to come up to speed with the facilities, but I expect that service will improve as the volume of guests pick up and the staff gets fully on board. The location is excellent for getting into Carmel and exploring the area. I did not play golf here but I hear the course is in excellent shape.

We took advantage of their golf/spa special. We had a nice clean updated room, hardwood floors and a king bed with high quality bedding. Bathroom was large with lots of light and mirrors, great shower and HUGE bathtub. We were very comfortable and had a relaxing stay. We found the staff friendly and helpful. We had great maid service also!
Husband says their course is nice but short and narrow with a lot of water. There are also at least 2 good restaurants walkable across the street- quiet area but still managed to have a wonderful weekend! If you want a neat spa experience, check out the Refuge which is a short drive up the road- I highly recommend for a very relaxing time-we got passes with the special.

Room Tip: Very quiet-No traffic noise in 121, but some pool noise in 122

My family and I stayed due to the good reviews and the high cost of the Carmel valley lodge where we normally stay, but it was a dissapointing experience, although our dog enjoyed it. Got a garden suite and an adjacent two queens room, the garden suite is very nice but we were literally 10 yards from the road which has become fairly busy. The two queen room was suppossed to connect but it didnt. The standard rooms are very boxy and confining. Also had a triangular type window at the top which couldnt be covered by curtains letting light in at 6AM. The staff was limited and very young and not real friendly or informed. The exercise rooms are split into three little rooms which is really a dumb format. The carmel valley lodge is more expensive but it is clearly superior to this locale. Whoever redesigned this place did a strange job.

Room Tip: Avoid the suites and rooms in the 170 to 180 area right next to the road
